About me

My name is Granyon Perry‑Wooden, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I understand the gift of sitting with people in a space that makes sense to them, and it’s never something I take for granted. I’ve worked and served in health and human services for over 20 years, and these are different times. Life isn’t just “life‑ing” — it’s challenging. One thing I know for sure is that we all need someone who will truly hear us. In my work, I draw from various therapeutic modalities to ensure that the approach we use makes sense for your care and your lived experience. I am a therapist who walks with you, supports you, and helps you explore what’s possible, not someone who tells you what to do. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, empowered, and safe to grow.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, my initial goal is to understand what brings you to therapy at this point in your life. Every question I ask — and even the moments of reflection or appropriate humor — are meant to help you determine whether I am the right person to sit with you in this space. I will ask about any previous experiences you’ve had in therapy, as this helps me understand what has worked for you, what hasn’t, and what you’re hoping for now. It’s important for a therapist to identify the most effective mode of treatment early on, usually within the first or second session. Together, we will discuss the type of therapy that best fits your needs and outline the steps we’ll take to work toward your goals. My role is to support you, guide you, and collaborate with you. My job is not to tell you what to do, but it is to assist you in determining what steps makes it makes sense . Our work will be centered on what makes sense for you and the life you’re building.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What makes my practice stand out is my ability to be exactly what is needed in the moment. This isn’t about being a chameleon — it’s about understanding that, just like we dress for the season we’re in, therapy must also meet people where they are. Every season of a person’s life calls for something different, and honoring that is what makes each therapist unique and specialized. My greatest strength is knowing how to shift with you, not away from you. In trauma‑informed care, this matters. It means creating a space where your nervous system feels safe enough to explore, question, and heal. It means recognizing when to slow down, when to challenge gently, and when to simply sit with you in what you’re carrying. I don’t offer one-size-fits-all therapy. I offer presence, attunement, and approaches that make sense for your lived experience. That is the heart of my practice — and the reason it stands out.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is anyone who is trying to make sense of who they are and where they’re going. I work well with teens and young adults who feel overwhelmed by the process of growing into their own person. I also welcome men who are trying to determine whether therapy is right for them and need a space where they can explore their thoughts without judgment. Veterans seeking support, clarity, or grounding in their next chapter will also find a space here that honors their experiences and the complexity of their transitions. I support individuals navigating career changes or making pivots in their professional lives. These seasons can bring uncertainty, pressure, and questions about purpose — and having a space to explore those feelings matters. I welcome clients experiencing cultural concerns, especially those impacted by shifting attitudes, values, and behaviors that influence their sense of belonging, identity, or economic stability. These experiences deserve a therapist who understands the weight of cultural context and lived reality. I also work with people facing substance use challenges, offering a compassionate, trauma‑informed approach that honors both the struggle and the strength it takes to seek support. At the core, my ideal client is anyone who wants to be seen, heard, and understood. If you are navigating a difficult season, questioning your direction, or simply trying to grow into the fullest version of yourself, you are the ideal client for this space. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and walk with you toward clarity, healing, and growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I also work with people facing substance use challenges, offering a compassionate, trauma‑informed approach that honors both the struggle and the strength it takes to seek support. At the core, my ideal client is anyone who wants to be seen, heard, and understood. If you are navigating a difficult season, questioning your direction, or simply trying to grow into the fullest version of yourself, you are the ideal client for this space. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and walk with you toward clarity, healing, and growth.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I am mindful of all cultures — what is known, what feels overwhelming, and what is accepted or expected within different communities. I pay attention to how cultural values, pressures, and lived experiences shape a person’s emotional world, and I take thoughtful steps when these factors begin causing significant disturbance or stress. Culturally sensitive therapy with me is about honoring your identity, your background, and the realities you navigate every day. I don’t assume your story. I listen, I ask, and I adjust our work based on what feels true for your life. Together, we explore how culture, family, community, and social expectations influence your mental health, and we create a space where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are. My goal is to make sure you feel fully seen, respected, and understood — no matter where you come from or what season you’re in.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support individuals navigating substance use by meeting them exactly where they are in the Stages of Change. Whether someone is in Pre‑Contemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, Maintenance, or even experiencing a Return to Use, MI allows us to explore their ambivalence, strengthen their internal motivation, and identify the next realistic step forward. In MI, we focus on your values, your goals, and your readiness for change. We look at what feels overwhelming, what feels possible, and what feels important to you right now. Instead of pushing you toward a decision, I help you clarify your own reasons for change and build confidence in your ability to move toward it. We explore the tension between wanting change and feeling unsure, the impact of substance use on your daily life, the moments where motivation feels strong, the moments where motivation feels distant , the supports you need to move from one stage of change to the next. MI is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in your autonomy. My role is to help you hear yourself more clearly, understand where you are in the change process, and support you as you move toward healthier patterns at a pace that honors your lived experience.
