My name is Joshua Barbour, I am a board Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Massachusetts. I earned my Bachelors and Masters in Social Work both from Bridgewater State University. I work with individuals, families and couples. Having been a social worker for the last decade, I have a true appreciation for the vulnerability and strength it takes for someone to seek support and engage in services.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
My expectations for the initial session is to simply build a rapport with the person I am serving. I expect to review the expectations, limitations and barriers to therapy. Gather assessment information and determine whether or not I will be able to meet the client's expectations prior to continuing services.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My greatest strengths as a clinician include my ability to build strong therapeutic rapport, create a nonjudgmental and safe environment, that will best support the client's needs.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
My approach to therapy is client centered and I operate with the understanding that everyone is their own best expert "no one can know you better than you". My style is to facilitate a discussion using motivational interviewing and strength-based techniques to best support you in identifying and achieving your own specific goals.

I use motivational interviewing for treatment to create a supportive environment that empowers clients to identify their own motivations and strengthen their commitment to positive behavioral change.
Strength-Based
I use strength-based for treatment to support clients building confidence, recognizing their competencies, and use their existing strengths to overcome challenges.
