New to Grow
I'm Lisa Mau, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker offering individual therapy through secure telehealth sessions. I specialize in supporting adults experiencing issues with addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and life transition challenges. Rooted in a person-centered, strengths-based approach, I create a safe affirming space where each client is seen, heard, and empowered to heal at their own pace. When appropriate I may incorporate therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Motivational Interviewing to support healing and growth. Whether you're here seeking relief, clarity, or transformation, I'm here to walk alongside you on your journey toward wellness and self discovery.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brings you to therapy, and ask any questions you may have. We will also explore your goals and assess whether I feel like the right fit to support you in your therapeutic journey.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is providing a calm, steady presence during times that may feel overwhelming or chaotic. I support clients through both their challenges and successes by creating an empathetic, nonjudgmental space where they feel truly heard and seen. I approach difficult topics with care and at a pace that feels comfortable for each client, while encouraging them to take an active role in their own healing, growth, and overall well-being.
I enjoy working with adults who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain during a life transition and are looking for support, clarity, and direction. I also specialize in helping adults navigate challenges related to addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and other difficult life experiences. My goal is to provide a supportive and compassionate space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives. Whether you are seeking healing, personal growth, or a deeper understanding of yourself, I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey toward wellness and self-discovery.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has primarily involved working with individuals navigating legal issues due to substance use who were also dealing with trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety. I utilize evidence-based CBT interventions, including cognitive restructuring and reframing, mindfulness practices, and reality testing, to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, and develop healthier coping strategies. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, with a focus on empowering individuals to make meaningful, sustainable changes that support their overall well-being and recovery goals.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
As a multiracial therapist, I bring a deep appreciation for the many ways culture shapes our identity, relationships, and experiences. I understand that culture goes far beyond ethnicity—it includes the values we were raised with, family dynamics, religion, social class, community, and the environments that have influenced how we see ourselves and navigate the world. I continually hold an awareness of these cultural influences in my work with clients, recognizing how deeply they can impact emotions, communication styles, relationships, and personal experiences. I strive to create a culturally sensitive and affirming space where clients feel seen, respected, and understood within the full context of their lived experience. My approach honors each person’s unique background and the important role it plays in their healing and growth.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing techniques to help clients explore meaningful change in a supportive, nonjudgmental way. Rather than telling clients what they “should” do, I work collaboratively with them to uncover their own motivations, strengths, and goals. Together, we identify and work through feelings of uncertainty or ambivalence that can make change feel difficult, helping clients build confidence and move toward lasting, meaningful growth.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe each person has the ability to heal, grow, and better understand themselves. I create a supportive, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to openly share their thoughts and experiences. Using a person-centered approach, I allow clients to guide the conversation while helping them build insight, recognize their strengths, and feel empowered in their healing journey.
Strength-Based
I believe every client has strengths and resilience, even during times when they may struggle to see them in themselves. Using a strength-based approach, I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify their abilities, inner resources, and past successes. Together, we build on these strengths to increase confidence, support personal growth, and create meaningful, lasting change.
