Greetings! I a licensed marriage and family therapist and has worked in a wide variety of settings including community mental health, school-based mental health, non-profit agencies, the corporate sector and private practice. I have over a decade of experience serving individuals, families, couples and children and spent my early career working exclusively with individuals who have experienced complex trauma. My approach is always client-centered and is informed by a variety of therapeutic modalities including narrative, experiential, emotionally focused and solution-focused therapies (just to name a few). I specialize in working with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma, adjustment/life transitions and grief and loss.
My goal in our first session is to get an idea of your big picture. What is going on in your world and why are you seeking therapy at this time? It is also an important time to create a safe space and for you to ensure my approach is right for you. We then make a plan together about what would be most helpful to you going forward.
My greatest strength is creating a genuine and authentic safe space, which is something that cannot be forced or faked. With over a decade of experience, I have also learned that no single approach to therapy works with every client. I have had the time to develop my own unique approach, but one that is always tailored to each individual.
My clients are ready for real and lasting change in their lives, but have realized they may need some guidance to help them achieve this. My clients also are usually ready to take a deeper dive into who they are why they are and are ready to explore (and work towards) who they want to be. They may have done therapy before and found it helpful, but are ready for something new to achieve the above. I also have a special interest in working with those who are engaging in therapy for the first time, regardless of age or presenting challenge.
Narrative therapy focuses on changing the narrative of your life and how you see yourself. It is a flexible therapy with applications to virtually any individual, family or couple and presenting challenge. I use aspects of narrative therapy in all of my work and have been doing so for over a decade.
Authentic connection and getting in touch with and allowing our feelings is of the utmost importance in any therapeutic relationship. EFT is an approach that fosters both in deep and meaningful ways.
Integrative simply means that tools and interventions from multiple treatment modalities are used. It is fair to say that I always take an integrative approach as I craft interventions unique to each client and their situation.
Attachment theory is the basis of EFT and an important aspect of helping clients to understand themselves, themselves in relationship and relationship patterns they want to change. With this foundation, it is often easier to see patterns and change patterns, which leads to improvement in managing self in relationship. It also allows one to see healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics.
