Rhoda Ondov
I am Rhoda Ondov, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with couples and families having difficulties or in crisis to help them repair their relationships. I focus on communication because that is behind many of the problems I see in relationships. I offer guidance and encourage openness, and for families I offer knowledge and techniques on parenting and discipline. I also do some individual therapy and can help with issues such as depression and anxiety especially if these are interfering with relationships. I am a firm believer in finding the right therapist whether it is me or not, as this is the most important criteria for success.
First session
At first I like to get to know who you are in broad terms, some history, and what the current issues are. Following this, I give some guidance based on my experience and trainings to determine what most applies to the situation, and then we get into specifics about your particular needs, and how best to approach these.
Strengths
I am more casual than formal in my therapeutic approach, and use an eclectic style. This pulls from CBT, solution focused, IFS, and sometimes other methods. I do not approach anyone as if they have a mental illness, but as people who need to learn more about what is happening internally and how to work with it. There is no blame to be found, but techniques to be learned. I have developed and taught programs on communication, parenting, discipline, and infidelity. I have used solution focused especially with couples, following Michele Weiner-Davis' method, which I am qualified to teach.
