LCSW, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 21 years of experience in the mental health field, and more than 5 years specifically providing talk therapy. My background is rooted in social work, which means I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life—each with their own unique strengths, challenges, and stories. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I draw from a variety of techniques and tailor each session to meet the individual needs of the person sitting across from me. Whether you’re navigating a tough transition, working through emotional pain, or just looking for a space to reflect and grow, I’m here to walk alongside you with empathy, flexibility, and respect. My goal is to create a safe, collaborative space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to move forward in your own way.
First sessions are essentially intake sessions, where I'll be asking about general details. This can include what your living, working, and community environment is like, what sort of past services (if any) that you have had, if there are any pre-existing diagnosis or related medical concerns, and most importantly of all things... who you are as a person. I want to know each individual that I work with as a unique person, not just a diagnosis or presenting problem. I'll be asking you for your vision of what you wish to accomplish, your goals after therapy is over, and from that we will be developing a treatment plan based what you wish to accomplish for yourself. Its also important for me to understand a bit more about what works for you, and what doesn't. If you've been in therapy in the past please feel free to tell me what works and what doesn't work. I'm here to serve you.
I've worked with a wide variety of folks over the years and I don't judge. In my time I've seen folks of all economic backgrounds, from corporate CEOs to individuals who currently lack a job and a permanent roof over their head. I've worked with kids and adults alike, folks with squeaky clean legal records and individuals in prison or carrying the stigma and burden of a past offense. I've worked with clients who simply needed guidance on a short term situation and clients who have dealt with significant trauma or other mental health issues for many years. Some of my clients have been very liberal while others much more conservative. Its my goal as a therapist to meet you where you are at, not try to judge or mold you to where I want you to be.
Though I'm more than happy to work with most anyone, many of the folks that I provide therapy for are going through challenging life transitions and could use someone neutral to help them see new solutions to their situation of concern. I like to work with people who are motivated for change and interested in exploring new possibilities.
I use motivational interviewing on a daily basis with clients. This is a natural fit for me as I am also professionally involved in case work, and have a strong background in helping clients look at their situations and find solutions through exploration of details and possibilities.
I am versed in a variety of different techniques, and in my time of practice have found that different folks require different approaches. During intake I like to ask what works for someone and what does not.
I recognize that some folks need solutions to temporary problems in their lives, and are not in need of delving deep into their past. Brief solution focused therapy helps get you back on track in fewer sessions.
I utilize a variety of CBT related techniques for individuals in need of working on greater long term issues.
