Let me help you overcome the challenges of daily living. My name is Scott with 35 years in the mental health field serving individuals and families just like you, who live in Indiana. I am licensed as an LMFT, licensed marriage and family therapist, LMHC, licensed mental health counselor, and LCAC, licensed clinical addictions counselor. Let me share my belief and philosophy on therapy and counseling! I believe that a therapist works best with a client when they take time to first understand the person, their background, and any and all knowledge that may help facilitate the process of therapy. But it's not only that, right? It is important that, in therapy, we work to provide and cultivate a safe place to share, and a time to work on your concerns, so that you feel better and able to go forward in your life with greater resolve, and more peace of mind. We can do this! I have seen it happen all the time! You can feel better! I work in solution focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, CBT, motivational interviewing, family systems therapy, and provide psychoeducation as needed as well. While I am not a medical professional and cannot make medical diagnoses, I am conversant with psychopharmacology and can help you perhaps clarify how to communicate with your medical provider. In our first session together, I will start with brief introductions, and gather a great deal of background information. It is, well, crucial. The more I know about you, the better I can help. We will talk about your fears, expectations and hopes from therapy. Hey, we've all been new to someone else in our life at some time, right? But I promise, I will work to not only know your background better, but to know you better. Plus, I'll provide a generous, appropriate sense of humor! Who doesn't like that?
I've been told for many years that my biggest strength is the ability to help my clients see themselves more positively, which is crucial to personal growth. I also am a strong believer in clarification of issues and will help you be more specific to both me and others in your life with whom you work and live. Sometimes, just being able to talk or vent is helpful! Sometimes, brainstorming ideas of how to approach something is helpful too! Always know, I will approach you in the most sensitive way. Emotions are very important and I'll take yours seriously. Sometimes we feel things before we can put words to them. I can help you with that! I may give homework with which to follow through, again, to help you find new ways, to think, to communicate, to better understand.
I enjoy working with all types of clients over a broad range of problems. I can help you wherever you presently are, and develop a clear plan with you about where you want to go and in daily life, identify your goals, yet still live in the present moment. I invite you to come to therapy with an open mind, being honest about your past. If you bring those two attributes to our sessions, we will accomplish much of what you seek!
Eclectic
I work from several modalities because I find that one treatment method does not fit all clients. These modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, dialectical behavioral therapy, or DBT, person-centered, solution focused therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, motivational interviewing.
