Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to come in with a mix of emotions—whether that’s uncertainty, nervousness, or even a sense of relief. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and heard from the very beginning. During our first session, we’ll start with a clinical interview. This is simply a conversation designed to help me better understand you—your background, the challenges you’re currently facing, and what has brought you to therapy at this time. My approach is warm, solution-focused, and grounded in unconditional positive regard. That means you can expect a non-judgmental environment where you are accepted as you are, and where we focus on identifying practical ways to help you move forward. This process is highly collaborative. Together, we’ll begin identifying your goals for therapy and prioritizing what feels most important to you. From there, we’ll start shaping a personalized plan that we’ll continue to build on in future sessions. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance—just come as you are. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once; we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you. By the end of our first session, my hope is that you feel heard, understood, and confident that we have a clear direction for the work ahead. I look forward to working with you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Choosing a therapist is an important step, and it’s helpful to know what kind of experience you can expect. My approach is warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental, with a strong focus on helping you feel comfortable being open and honest. At the same time, I take an active role in guiding you through the process so you don’t feel stuck or unsure of how to move forward. I specialize in helping individuals identify and challenge negative core beliefs, improve self-esteem, and develop practical coping skills that can be applied in everyday life. Using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, behavioral activation, and motivational interviewing, we’ll work together to better understand your patterns and create meaningful, lasting change. Rather than focusing on quick fixes, my goal is to help you build a deeper understanding of yourself and develop the tools needed for long-term growth and resilience.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a core component of my clinical approach, integrating it with other evidence-based modalities such as DBT, behavioral activation, and motivational interviewing. My approach to CBT is both structured and collaborative, helping patients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns while developing more adaptive ways of thinking and responding. I place a strong emphasis on building rapport and creating a nonjudgmental, supportive environment, as I believe this foundation is essential for meaningful cognitive and behavioral change. Once that foundation is established, I work with patients to explore the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, with particular attention to identifying and restructuring negative core beliefs that impact self-esteem and overall functioning. In session, I take an active role by asking targeted questions, guiding patients through cognitive reframing, and helping them gain insight into recurring patterns. I also focus on building practical coping skills and encouraging behavioral changes that reinforce progress outside of sessions. While CBT can be effective in producing short-term symptom relief, my approach emphasizes deeper, lasting transformation over time by addressing underlying belief systems and helping patients develop sustainable tools for long-term growth.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into my clinical work as part of an integrative, evidence-based approach. I use DBT skills to help patients strengthen emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. My approach to DBT is grounded in creating a warm, nonjudgmental, and validating therapeutic environment, which I believe is essential for patients to feel safe exploring difficult emotions and experiences. At the same time, I help guide patients toward meaningful change by teaching and reinforcing practical skills they can apply in their daily lives. I often integrate DBT techniques with CBT and behavioral activation to help patients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while also building adaptive coping strategies. In session, I take an active and collaborative role—helping patients identify patterns, validate their experiences, and introduce skills that improve emotional stability, self-esteem, and overall functioning. My focus is on helping patients not only manage immediate distress but also develop long-term tools that support lasting emotional resilience and personal growth.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Tarrant for a couple years already—maybe even three. I really love that she isn’t rigid in her therapeutic style and doesn’t have a “one-size-fits-all” approach. I often just blab and blab and blab about everything and nothing, carrying the same rant from one session to the next. I talk so much that she can hardly get a word in. But when she does find an opening, she always says something that validates my blabber and confirms she’s listening.
