Asking for help can be extremely difficult for many of us. Especially if you were raised in a family where communication, trust, and vulnerability was not fostered. If you are reading this or exploring the thought of seeking therapy, you have already taken the first step. I am an LCSW with 20 plus years' experience ranging from working in the neonatal intensive care unit to working with seniors and supporting them communicate their end of life wishes to their families. My specialty is working with women who are experiencing postpartum depression or have children with acute or chronic illnesses. I am also passionate about helping young adults navigate the adversity of the college experience or life transitions such as, relationships, marriage, divorce, parenthood and co-parenting. It has been an honor to walk alongside so many people in all stages of life, as they adjust to life changes, cope with grief and loss, and explore the impact of past trauma. In addition, athletics has been a huge part of mine and my children’s life. Therefore, my understanding of this unique path has been the catalyst for my desire to work with student athletes at the collegiate level. I support athletes develop coping skills to manage the intense pressures placed on them to achieve success or the transition when athletics no longer plays the same role in their life. During my years as a medical social worker, I saw firsthand how depression and anxiety could impacted people’s physical health, as well as mental health. This made me focus on a more preventative service and help people recognize these physical symptoms earlier in order to improve their emotional and physical health and live a more fulfilling life. I bring an honest, open, and client centered approach to counseling. I know the journey of life can be unique for everyone and consider myself a life-long learner. I recognize you are the expert on your past experiences and how you feel. I want to support you in understanding how these experiences may or may not impact your thoughts, behaviors, and choices in your life. I tend to use a more holistic approach to counseling and allow for the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual needs of an individual to be incorporated. I utilize solution focused therapy, trauma informed care, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help guide our work together. I believe everyone has the ability to make positive changes in their life if supported through the process.
Our initial sessions will begin a process of sharing and learning. Continued sessions will involve the work of developing tools to navigate your daily life and knowledge of oneself. Knowledge means choice, in therapy we explore and uncover information that will allow you to guide your goals with intention. Along the way together we will discuss triggers, increase awareness regarding the impact of thoughts on your behaviors and decisions, and explore the knowledge and skills needed to live a balanced life. I intentionally keep a small case load of clients so I can deliver a quality service to you.
