Dawn Moran

LICSW (she/her)3 years of experience

Hello, Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a LICSW therapist with a holistic approach to optimizing positive mental health. I graduated with my MSW from BU and have an extensive background in natural systems which I apply to my therapeutic approach. I specialize in trauma informed care, depression and anxiety treatment, inclusive positive identity development, attached based theory for healthy relationships and mind body connection.

First session

In session, creating a safe environment is the first priority. The client chooses the focus for each session. This may include immediate interventions such as reducing anxiety symptoms or long term interventions aimed at shifting life time schemas. Processing events, emotions and narratives are a regular component of the talk therapy. I work toward supporting the client's self-determination in completing their goals.

Strengths

I work from a strengths based perspective meeting the client where they are at. I specialize in energy psychology which includes tapping to process trauma and regulate the body's autonomic nervous system. I use many cognitive behavioral therapy tools to help optimize positive relationships and effective communication. Attachment theory is a foundation in my therapeutic approach to help the client build healing connections.

Ideal clients

I work with a wide variety of clients and am able to meet people from many types of backgrounds where they are at. If you are looking for immediate relief or long term solutions those can be addressed in session. The client's self-determination is the focus and I provide services to help clients be their best possible selves.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the central tools I use to help recognize and eliminate negative thinking patterns. Negative thinking patterns hold negative core beliefs in place. Through cognitive interventions the client's self-esteem is improved while negative belief systems are eroded. Cognitive behavioral therapy also help to reduce overthinking and eliminate thoughts that are connected with anxiety and depression.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is one of the central tools I use to help clients make progress toward their goals. Steps toward goals are discussed in small attainable segments. This gives the client action items that are within reach and help to build confidence along the way.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy is a valuable tool to help the client see the positive aspects about where they are at in their journey. Acceptance and commitment therapy can help reduce feelings of guilt and shame. Acceptance and commitment therapy is an intervention that is also used to put intergenerational trauma into perspective.

Attachment-based

I regularly use attachment-based therapy in couples and family counseling. Attachment theory is at the center of relational dynamics. The use of attachment theory in session helps client to understand how attachment styles formed in childhood affect how they behave in relationships as adults. Attachment styles can be modified with awareness, psychoeducation and improved regulation skills.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I use culturally sensitive counseling to respect and understand each client's unique perspective. Factors such as oppression, gender identity, cultural diversity, spirituality and neurodivergence are some of the important backgrounds to consider when making efforts to understand a wide variety of perspectives and experiences. I consider it an honor to work with a diverse population.
