Welcome, my name is Maya Rodelander and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California. I strive to create a warm, trusting environment where clients can share their whole selves and feel empowered to make the changes they desire. Moving through everyday life can be overwhelming. Throw in changing relationships, jobs, a move, or a new family member? Life transitions can tip the scales and cause healthy boundaries, coping skills and everyday joy to fly out the window. I am passionate about supporting clients regain balance, identify and communicate their emotions, set and maintain healthy boundaries, and be their best selves.
In our first session, we will get to know each other and have an open discussion about what you want to get out of therapy and how I can best support you. We will dive into background information so that I can have an understanding of where you are coming from and where you would like to be. We will collaborate on what achievable goals look like for you to make the changes you want to see.
I work from a collaborative, compassionate, and solution focused viewpoint so that you can feel safe, heard, and walk away from our time together feeling you have made lasting changes that will positively impact your life. I have a certificate in Perinatal Mental Health and feel strongly about supporting individuals on their journeys to parenthood and the immense emotional changes that occur in this time.
I love working with individuals who are going through life transitions, whether it be starting college or a new job, a relationship, or planning a family. They may feel overwhelmed by these changes, and need support to allow them to live the life they strive for.
In my work with clients, mindfulness-based therapy is used to bring awareness to present thoughts, bodily sensations, and emotions with compassion and acceptance. We will work together to reflect and prioritize effective change to move forward in a way that aligns with your goals.
As a white therapist, it is incredibly important that I maintain cultural awareness and continue to educate myself in order to best support clients of all backgrounds. While I do not have the lived experience of all the clients I have supported, I approach all clients with compassion and provide a space for processing anything a client brings to our time together.
We don't all have the time or resources to do therapy long-term. In my work with clients, I prioritize working together to achieve effective change that can be applied in the present moment for long-term effects outside of therapy. We will work together to identify goals, break them down into small steps, and reflect on what's working and what needs to change.
With a certificate in Perinatal Mental Health, advocating for women's health is extremely important to me. Coming from a trauma-informed lens, I work with clients to advocate for their wellbeing and receive the support they deserve.
