I have over 10 years of counseling experience providing individual therapy to adults ages 18 and up in an acute inpatient and outpatient setting. My approach is person-centered as I want to make this therapeutic experience as personable as possible. I also want to know you as an individual and understand the hobbies and activities that make up your day-to-day. This helps me know you more and create measurable and achievable goals.
Clients can expect a safe and supportive environment, along with goal setting. Therapy can be awkward especially if it is your first time or restarting. I want to get to know you and build trust which I know takes time and I will always honor that.
Working in inpatient acute care has helped me work through crisis situations and know when a crisis is happening. I am beyond grateful for this profession because I am able to connect with people in need of a change or just to find their voice. I am warm, accepting, validating but also challenging.
Difficult experiences are uncomfortable and can cause obsessive negative thinking. ACT allows us to develop a new relationship with difficult experiences which can help promote a peace of mind. I like to help my clients revisit or work on their values and goals, self compassion and acceptance of emotions and feelings and help commit to a positive approach that helps us move forward and not feel stuck in the past.
My experience working in the inpatient and outpatient setting has helped me gain experience using this treatment method. Difficult situations impact the way we view ourselves. With this approach I will help clients understand how we view or interpret situations can lead to emotions and behaviors. This allows clients to work on reframing negative thoughts to prevent negative behaviors that can cause even more significant stress.
I have experience and am currently certified in DBT and personality disorders. I help my clients to understand and accept emotions even difficult ones to help manage stress, improve relationships and make healthier choices. Remember what others say or do impact us and what we say and do impact others.
With my experience working in the healthcare system inpatient and outpatient I am able to help others process situations and work towards a solution that can help ease stress and anxiety. I empower and encourage my clients to feel confident and comfortable making decisions and working on self compassion and reframing cognitive dissonance if a set back happens.
I have worked with clients who experienced trauma and the main part to process and the blame towards self. I use psycho education to help explain how we tend to blame ourselves for situations completely out of our control and work to process traumatic experiences and develop healthy coping strategies
