New to Grow
Hi! My name is Caitlin and I am looking forward to meeting you and learning more about your experience. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives, and take a very client-centered approach to my work, focusing on empowerment and self-determination at all times. I believe there are as many ways to heal as there are individuals, and enjoy helping each client find their path towards fulfillment in their unique life. My experience has primarily been in schools and working with gender expansive individuals and families. I have also worked in early childhood programs and have a lot of experience supporting families with children from hard places or who have experienced trauma. I believe all people and families have the potential to thrive, and enjoy finding the right supports to help clients reach their goals. As a neurodivergent, queer, adoptive parent myself, I have lived experience in all of these areas and bring this experience and understanding into the therapy space with me. I show up to every session as my authentic self and hope that that creates space for clients to do the same. I am an adoptive parent myself, so I have lived experience in this area as well.
The first session for me is just getting to know you. I can go as slow as you need, or we can dive right in. I typically let the client decide the pace, as I believe trust and rapport are built through consistent and predictable interactions where clients feel safe and in control. I will push when necessary, but initially I prefer to let the client guide the pace. I will ask some questions, learn about you as a human and the things that are important to you, and I will ask you about your concerns or what brings you to therapy. We can go as deep as you'd like, but there's no pressure to jump in right away.
I am a great listener and I really focus on client empowerment. I believe everyone has the capacity for healing and growth, and that it is my job to help you discover that within yourself, not to tell you how to heal. I have varied life experiences that I bring to my sessions that allow me to relate to many different types of people, having lived in many different parts of the country and even had a number of different career paths in my adulthood. My experience in schools makes me a particularly good fit for families dealing with school challenges as well.
I love working with all ages. I find I tend to click the best with clients who identify as neurodivergent or differently wired, with LGBTQIA2S+ or questioning clients, and with complex family systems. I particularly enjoy working with teens and young adults and supporting them through challenging life transitions. I have specialty experience working with gender expansive and transgender individuals, both children and adults, and am always honored to provide gender-affirming care to folks who need support.
I identify as
Attachment-based
I focus on attachment-based treatment particularly with adoptive families. As an adoptive parent myself, I understand first hand the impacts of trauma and attachment wounds on children and I have experienced the benefits of focused attachment work in the therapeutic space.
Eclectic
I believe that there is no one size fits all approach to healing, and use a client-centered, eclectic approach in working with individuals and families, co-creating a treatment plan and determining which interventions are most appropriate.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use TF-CBT with people who have experienced traumatic events as it can be a helpful and supportive way to tell your story and begin to heal from the impact of the trauma.
Family Therapy
I work with families of all kinds, with a special interest in working with adoptive families, neurodivergent families, and queer families.
