I am Caroline Brennan , a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in Florida with over 30 years working in the field with children, teens, young adults, families and couples, including the supervision of other licensed mental health professionals and university interns. All of us struggle with lifes challenges from time to time and can find coping with them difficult. I am here to help you take the next steps toward creating change, moving toward your goals and living a happier and healthier you!
I utilize an eclectic and integrative approach to therapy to meet clients where they are and moving forward at their own pace drawing from a variety of therapeutic modalities. I provide a compassionate, empathetic and empowering counseling style and believe that building rapport with clients is vital to helping them move toward healing. Listening is the single most important component to establishing a therapeutic relationship.
I firmly believe in providing a respectful, supportive and non-judgemental environment for my clients, where...most importantly, they feel safe, heard and valued for who they are. My sessions are a safe place for them to process their experiences and move forward at their own pace, where I will listen and support them to move toward whatever goals they have in the therapeutic process.
I have worked in a variety of settings including domestic violence shelter, hospitals, school system, as well as, family systems and preservation programs. I have experience working with children, teens, adults, families and LGBTQ clients around issues related to domestic violence, relationships, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, family conflict, parenting challenges, career and workplace difficulties, grief and life transitions.
CBT is used in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities to assist clients in identifying unhelpful patterns of thinking that lead to feelings and behaviors that negatively affect their mental health and learning new ways to rewire thinking to positively impact mental health.
Some components of DBT are utilized to assist clients with distress tolerance and emotional regulation through acceptance, self soothing and mindfulness in order to reduce and relieve how they experience negative emotions.
For me....this means being where the client is and meeting their individual needs at any given time in the therapeutic process by drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities, strategies, skills and tools.
Utilized in connection with relationship dynamics with couples and/or families to build stronger connections and reduce conflicts.
Utilized to assist clients in focusing on their strengths and positive qualities and characteristics to optimize functioning and develop a more positive view of themselves and the world.
