New to Grow
Life can feel overwhelming when you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, attention challenges, or difficult emotions and behaviors. My goal is to provide a calm, supportive environment where you can feel heard, understood, and comfortable working toward meaningful change. I’m David Blitz, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 30 years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and older adults navigate emotional and behavioral challenges. Much of my career has focused on working with children and teens with complex needs, and I have extensive experience supporting individuals who have experienced trauma. I also work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger, relationship difficulties, and personality related challenges. My approach is practical, collaborative, and centered on meeting you where you are. I believe therapy should be a place where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing, develop practical tools, and work toward lasting change with a little gentle humor when the moment calls for it.
Our first session is an opportunity to get comfortable, talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, and begin understanding what you would like to change. I’ll listen carefully, answer any questions you may have, and make sure you have a clear understanding of how we can work together. For children and teens, caregivers may also be part of the conversation when appropriate. Together, we’ll begin identifying goals that feel realistic and meaningful to you. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we meet. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, supported, and more confident about the path forward. Therapy can involve difficult conversations, but it should also feel comfortable, respectful, and human.
One of my greatest strengths is the ability to work with people at different stages of life and understand that each person may need something different. My experience working with children and adolescents with complex emotional and behavioral needs has taught me how important it is to be patient, flexible, and willing to meet each person where they are. I bring that same approach to my work with adults and older adults. My style is calm, collaborative, and practical. Rather than simply talking about problems, we’ll work together to understand what is happening and develop tools and strategies that can be used in everyday life. I want clients to feel safe being honest, without feeling judged or pressured. I also believe therapy can be serious without always being heavy. When appropriate, I use gentle humor to ease tension and help create a comfortable, genuine connection. My goal is for therapy to feel human and approachable while still helping you make meaningful progress.
My ideal clients are children, teens, adults, and older adults who are looking for support with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, difficult emotions, behavioral challenges, or patterns that have become difficult to manage. This might be a child struggling with big emotions or school challenges, a teenager dealing with social pressure or relationship difficulties, or an adult navigating stress, life changes, or long-standing patterns. I especially enjoy working with clients who appreciate a calm, collaborative, and practical approach. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what you need from therapy. We can start with what is happening right now, identify what you would like to change, and work together to develop practical tools for moving forward. If you’re looking for an experienced therapist who will meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and help make therapy feel both productive and approachable, we may be a good fit.
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a practical, evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sometimes the way we think about a situation can affect how we feel and how we respond, even when those thoughts are not completely accurate or helpful. In our sessions, we’ll work together to recognize patterns that may be getting in the way and develop more balanced and realistic ways of thinking and responding. We’ll also build practical skills that you can use outside of therapy to manage emotions, handle stress, improve relationships, and work through difficult situations. I adapt CBT to each person rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. The tools may look different for a child learning to manage big emotions, a teenager dealing with school or social stress, or an adult trying to change long-standing patterns. My goal is to make CBT practical, understandable, and useful in your everyday life.
Grief can affect every part of life, and there is no single “right” way to grieve. I use a compassionate, person centered approach that gives you space to process your loss in a way that feels right for you. Together, we can explore the emotions, memories, and changes that come with loss while finding practical ways to cope with the challenges of everyday life. I recognize that grief can look very different for children, teens, and adults, and I adapt my approach to each person’s age, personality, circumstances, and needs. My goal is not to rush the grieving process or tell you how you should feel, but to help you understand and work through what you are experiencing while gradually finding ways to move forward. Grief can be incredibly difficult, but therapy does not always have to feel heavy. When appropriate, I use warmth and gentle humor to help create a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself while working through something that may be very painful.
I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and other trauma-informed CBT techniques to help clients of all ages who have experienced trauma. In a safe and supportive environment, we work together to understand how traumatic experiences may be affecting thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships. Our work focuses on building practical skills for managing difficult emotions, reducing distress, developing healthier ways of thinking, and rebuilding a sense of safety and control. I adapt my approach to each person’s age, developmental needs, personality, and readiness, whether I’m working with a child, teenager, adult, or older adult. My extensive experience working with children and adolescents with complex emotional and behavioral needs, along with my work with clients across the lifespan, allows me to tailor trauma treatment to the individual rather than taking a one size fits all approach.
