Alma Santiago
Hi there! My name is Alma Santiago. I am an eldest daughter, daughter of immigrants, Oaxaqueña/ Zapoteca, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Soy Bilingüe! I am from the Central Valley of California, and hold my love for community, family, and wellness close to my heart.
I believe that a big strength of mine is to be able to attune to my client's emotional needs, holding a safe container while cultivating insight and curiosity.
I am here for those navigating challenges as first generation college students and professionals, anxiety and self-doubt, depression, and life's stressors.
First session
My intention is to provide a supportive environment where the client can feel safe enough to trust their own healing process. The first session will begin with introducing myself and practice. I will ask prompting questions about the client's background and history, what matters to them, their strengths and values, and what brings them in to seek therapy. We will work collaboratively to identify goals and explore what future sessions might look like.
Strengths
Authenticity and acceptance are at the root of my practice. I believe that showing up as my most genuine self is important in creating a therapeutic relationship based on trust, accountability, and respect. I believe that a big strength of mine is to be able to attune to my client's emotional needs, holding a safe container while cultivating insight and curiosity.
Ideal clients
My professional experience has focused on supporting young adults and adults (20s-40s), often first generation students and professionals, Indigenous/BIPOC, Latinx, and queer folks who are navigating through life stressors. My work is trauma-informed and person-centered with a focus on each individual client's needs. I am a believer that each of us holds our own medicine, and I welcome the client to bring that in with them.
Treatment methods
Integrative
As we work to explore inner strengths, resilience, and personal medicine, I use an integrative approach to therapy that allows for fluidity and what may be needed in the moment. I use a holistic approach that brings awareness to the body, mind, and spiritual being.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
A person-centered/humanistic approach encourages the client to be the leader in their own healing experience. I am here to provide the support and guidance needed in order for the client to explore and grow in confidence, self-awareness, and autonomy.
Trauma-Informed Care
I acknowledge that our own lived experiences, as well as those of our loved ones and ancestors can impact the way we navigate the world. I aim to create a space in which we can foster safety, trust, and compassion as we work toward gently unpacking experiences at your own pace.
