Licensed to practice in California and accepts 35 insurances. Specializes in Anxiety, Depression, Life Transitions and 6 more.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California with 6 years of clinical and professional work experience in the field of psychology. I am also the founder and president of Rafiki Wange Mental Health Services Corporation. I received my Ph.D from Walden University, and have experience in helping clients with stress, anxiety, coping with addictions, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, & depression. I also have experience working with clients going through life transitions. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage, and I am here to support you in that process.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions. I like for my clients to tell me the most important thing they want me to know about them that may not have been asked in any of the screenings. We then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. PS: I have an accent, and yes, my clients are allowed to ask me where I am from if I do not mention it in introductions but I typically do.
Having worked with adults experiencing various challenges in some of the most difficult situations for many years, I've developed a tried-and-true playbook for helping you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress. My biggest strengths are that I am empathetic and a great listener, and I will work with you to help you find the best version of you and, hopefully, achieve whatever goal you are seeking in treatment.
My clients are ideally open-minded, ready for change, and not afraid of being therapeutically challenged. They are transparent and meaningfully engage in sessions. I also welcome being asked questions and appreciate when a client is able to tell me what they do not like or when they feel things could be better. Honesty and open communication will make for a great therapeutic alliance.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Most of my training and experience have been helping clients understand on their thoughts and beliefs affect their experiences and finding ways to reframe/change those thoughts and beliefs so that they can have better experiences. Emphasis in this approach is understanding the connection between one's thoughts/beliefs, emotions, and behavior.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
In addition to being trained in CBT, I also have experience and training in DBT techniques, which focus on helping clients who struggle with emotional regulation and interpersonal problems. Patients are taught several ways to learn how to manage their stressors and emotions as well as ways to build healthy relationships by learning different skills and techniques in therapy.
Motivational Interviewing
I have training and experience in motivational interviewing especially, with patients struggling with substance use or any other situations that may be holding them back. Using the OARS approach to elicit change talk and help the patient get to whatever goals they may have set for themselves.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I have experience and training working with clients of various backgrounds. As an African immigrant, I am even more aware of the stigma associated with mental illness and therapy in general especially in non-Western communities and I use Motivation-Interviweing, or LEAP with patients to get them where they need to be in treatment. I understand the how the intersectionality of one's different facets identity, such as gender, sex, age, and sexual orientation can create stress and anxiety especially while navigating roles like motherhood and or being a spouse.

Profoundly knowledgeable and intuitive. Authentic, insightful, and straigtforward. I felt listened to and understood without the need to over explain. I felt that she sought a clear understanding of my concerns and the areas where I wanted to grow and that she conveyed genuine commitment to helping me identify meaningful strategies and solutions to support my progress.
