New to Grow
Are you striving to find satisfaction with your work, life or relationships? Do you want to focus on fixing immediate problems rather than unraveling past hurts? Do you want to build a strong foundation for your current or future relationship? Have you grown tired of being treated like a problem and not a person? I primarily take a narrative approach to counseling. Narrative therapy begins with the premise that you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. The way we see ourselves can be defined by the language that we use. I see my role as a co-author, helping you develop an alternate personal history so that you may move forward with courage and confidence.
While I have training and experience in clinical psychology, I believe you are the expert when it comes to your lived experience. In our initial sessions, we will collaboratively establish your goals for the process.
I bring a calm, empathic presence to client sessions so that when you are activated, you have an emotional container for your distress. This allows you to build resilience and learn to engage your "wise adult" mind.
While I have worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, I particularly like working with men who are learning to connect to their feelings, and adults who are working their way through mid-life transitions. Regarding couples, I specialize in helping couples through life transitions, such as empty-nesting, retirement and "gray" divorce. I also have training and experience working with veterans and people troubled by substance misuse.
Narrative therapy begins with the premise that you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. The way we see ourselves can be defined by the language that we use to tell our stories. The problem-laden stories we tell about ourselves can leave out important details that may seem trivial but might point to a new way of examining our lives.
