Congratulations! You are making an important step in your wellness! My name is Rafiah Maxie-Cole and I am honored to work with you on your goals. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have spent my entire career working side by side with clients on a host of issues, concerns or needs. I am a passionate therapist, invested in your goals and aim to help give you the tools to reach your goals. The journey can be challenging, I know this all too well after the tragic loss of my son by suicide. However, the destination is worth it. I look forward to meeting you soon.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect an introduction to therapy and open discussions on what bring the client to therapy, goals and expectations of the therapist. Client will be able to have a safe space to discuss fears, emotions and supports needed.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength is my ability to listen and give the client space to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe space.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a useful, effective tool to address emotional challenges. In our sessions, CBT can be used to help you manage symptoms of mental illness, resolve relationship conflicts and learn better ways to communicate, cope with grief or loss and even learn techniques for coping with stressful life situations, overcome emotional trauma related to abuse or violence. In our sessions, you will learn new ways of processing, feeling and approaching issues and concerns for healthy processing of your ultimate goals.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness based therapy is being aware of internal thoughts, feelings, and emotions, as well as external surroundings and situations, without automatic responses such as judgment or stress in our sessions, mindfulness therapy is used as a type of therapy that focuses on learning how to be more aware and to reduce automatic responses. You will be introduced to guided meditation that will help with grounding exercises you can used to help with feeling related to anxiety, coping, fear and anger.

Grief Therapy

Grief therapy is extremely important in processing the loss of a loved one. The five stages of grief are a part of the framework that make up our learning to live with the one we lost. We will explore our feelings related to our loss and work through each stage with meaning.
