Eduardo Molina
Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have been working in the field of helping others for almost twenty years. In my early career, I stared off as a school counselor helping and supporting elementary age children learn coping skills needed to thrive in a school setting. As my students grew and developed, I did too!
I have realized that "seeing" the client, the person, first from a humanistic lens vs. seeing the problem(s), creates a path to making positive and desirable outcomes.
Professionally, I grew, matured and transitioned to working in the community with adults who, just like my students, need support in learning coping skills to navigate the challenges in life.
First session
In our first session, I typically like to provide the client with an opportunity for him/her to ask the therapist questions about process and procedures. Following this, we usually begin by diving into motivations for seeking an appointment. This helps me understand what the client's goals and expectations are, and what the primary concerns to target in our treatment plan.
Strengths
In the last ten to fifteen years I have developed my skills in providing positive regard towards the client. I see the value in providing empathy and compassion to my client. I recognize that "seeing" the client, the person first from a humanistic lens vs. seeing the problem(s), creates a path to making positive and desirable outcomes.
Ideal clients
I truly enjoy working with clients who have an interest in personal development and maturing emotionally as individuals. Working with young adults who have a desire to explore their emotions, behaviors, and actions is truly the most rewarding for me. Working with me you will get a deeper understanding of why you behave the way you do and how early attachment experiences impact your current relationships. In our sessions, we will explore your Attachment Style and other behavior concerns, get an understanding of how your behaviors or attachment style impact your relationships and feelings, and identify a path to a healthier and more emotionally mature you.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance Commitment Therapy is one of my "go-to" tools in supporting clients living with negative thinking patterns that lead to harmful feelings of anxiety or depression. It's practical and effective. I love that in ACT you can incorporate the use of other skills such as Mindfulness and the identification of Values as tools to enrich our lives and achieve best results.
Attachment-based
One of my favorite therapeutic approaches is Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is based on the theories of Attachment, which we ALL have experienced and can relate to. It is one of the most effective approaches I use with clients who are struggling in relationships with intimate partners, friends, or family members.
Eclectic
I am a ADHD-Certified Clinical Service Provider (ADHD-CCSP). In my experience, I see the frequency of ADHD symptoms, diagnosed and undiagnosed in many clients. Unfortunately, it goes misdiagnosed for other mental health conditions or treated with medication without addressing the skills to curb down the negative behaviors that hurt the client. As a ADHD-CCSP you may learn the negative impacts of ADHD on the individual, the effects it has on learning, relationships, and employment opportunities. Further, you will learn practical skills to manage and thrive with your symptoms so that you may turn "symptoms" of ADHD into gifts. Lastly, I see the value in borrowing tools and theoretical approaches from other modalities such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness approaches, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy/Attachment based approaches to address the needs and healing process of the whole person.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
As an individual living with ADHD I understand the value in being seen as a person separate and apart from my symptoms and "short-comings". I believe in providing a non-directive environment centered on empathy, genuineness, and unconditional acceptance so the client can lead their own healing process.
