I am seeing patients only thru telehealth. I have experience and am comfortable working with people from every day mental health difficulties to chronic serious mental health disabilities including co-occurring disorders. I lean towards person centered and Dialectical behavior therapy. I have worked in multiple settings. I always wanted to be a doctor but learned in college they don’t talk to their patients much. I switched to psychology with an emphasis on counseling and have loved it since . I enjoy helping people and seeing them help themselves . I was raised a child of a military service member and had to learn how to adapt with every move. Learning to adapt and find the best balance with every move became second nature . I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings . I have worked with refugees with limited English and families in the foster care system in addition to other mental health needs. I have experience with the court systems and people in step down programs coming from the state hospital or other higher levels of care. I have over time found Dialectical behavior therapy or a mix of therapies that works best with clients. I am open to alternative lifestyles . I have attended training's telehealth and more. I have found everyone has their own level of comfort and that may not include a need to change much for everyone but an acceptance of self and current abilities. I aim to meet any client on their level and help only as much as they would like. When starting I like to look at the whole picture with a summary of the past. I do not do trauma work without a good level of coping skills. I will assign homework based on client individual needs .
Usually a first session is a get to know each other. They can be a little intense with some of the questions in order to form a plan on how we will work together but after that it is usually easier. I will take breaks for grounding or coping skills if questions become too difficult.
I have lived in a number of different settings and worked in multiple settings allowing me to know how better to adapt to the new age of telehealth. I also have awareness of other resources , cultures or levels of care from my experiences in working with them .
I am open to all populations of clients. I have experience with children as young as 3 and adults as old as 87 . I have experience in trauma work. I also have experience with chronically ill clients, military families , adoption , and foster care.
I will use a mixture of DBT with internal family systems and other methods to teach coping skills and create stability before processing experiences and traumas. I continue to attend training for trauma, neurodivergence , adoption competency and dialectical behavioral therapy .
I have used this in the form of parts language to help promote insight into emotions , reactions and strengths people have.
I will use this on occasion with people to help promote insight into how they relate to others in their lives.
I have attended multiple trainings on trauma and previously had certification for trauma levels 1 and 2. I have experience working with people with complex trauma and acute trauma. I use a mixture of DBT , Internal family systems , guided discovery , psychoeducation and more to help people gain insight in their trauma symptoms and how to manage them.
I will teach clients about their symptoms work with them in treatment plan development and assist them in learning what's the best ways to manage their symptoms and explain how their symptoms could be connected with their diagnosis .
