Laura C
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been helping children, teenagers, and adults for over 25 years. My primary areas of specialization are anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem and coping, and ADHD. I believe we all are doing the best we can every day. I provide an open, supportive, non-judgmental environment for you to be your authentic self. I focus on collaboration and each client's individuality and strengths. I try to being a relaxed tone to the session, to ease anxiety and build the therapeutic relationship. I believe we all are individuals and I focus on your strengths to build upon these in treatment. I enjoy working with children, teens, young adults, and older adults. I have many approaches I utilize in therapy, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered therapy, and Strength-Based interventions. I also approach therapy through a trauma-informed lens. Our first session will be relaxed and focused on getting to know each other in the therapeutic setting. It is important that you are comfortable with me as a therapist, and building this rapport will be one of the primary focuses of the first session, as well as gathering information from your perspective as to why you are seeking therapy services.
First session
Our first session will be relaxed and focused on getting to know each other in the therapeutic setting. It is important that you are comfortable with me as a therapist, and building this rapport will be one of the primary focuses of the first session, as well as gathering information from your perspective as to why you are seeking therapy services. We will explore your strengths and interests, as well as your concerns and growth areas.
Strengths
I feel I bring a non-judgmental, supportive tone to each session. However, I will also challenge you to think of other options or decisions to broaden your perspective. I am here to guide you through exploring what has impacted you the most and help you move forward in a more positive way.
Ideal clients
When working with me in therapy, my hope is that you come with an open mind and are receptive to feedback and new ideas. I want you to be engaged in your treatment and actively participate in each session to the best of your ability. Each client is unique and I want you to bring your true, authentic self to every session.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between our thoughts, experiences, feelings and behavior. A lot of us be haver a certain way based on how we feel or perceive a situation. CBT helps explore these connections, as well as where our brain can convince us that a feeling is a fact, and how to break down and change these patterns. This is very helpful for anyone experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteeem, difficulty in social situations, and many other areas.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing focuses on meeting you where you are and joining with you in that moment. It focuses on empathy, affirmation, and validation, while also exploring your perspective of events. I use motivational interviewing in most sessions in some capacity, as it allows an open space and time for you to share.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care explores how past traumatic experiences have impacted your overall functioning and perspective today. This may include exploring with you what triggers trauma responses, as well as exploring with you how events in the past may be interfering with your life today.
Strength-Based
Every session will utilize a strength-based approach. This is the viewpoint that we all are doing the best we can with the resources we have available in that moment. We each have individual strengths that can be built upon for ongoing growth.
