Hi! My name is April Silva and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the State of California. I have 12 years of extensive clinical experience working with people from a diversity of backgrounds and ages in both public and private settings. My focus is assisting people with trauma, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), depression/mood disorders, suicidal thoughts, LGBTQI+ issues, and adjustment disorders.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, the focus will be to create a safe space to share and explore, meanwhile exploring what brings you to therapy in the first place. We will talk about a plan moving forward. This discussion usually involves setting a few general goals for our work together and talking about how frequently we will meet.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, I feel one of my greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to meet my client where they are at. Whether this is providing them a safe space to share their vulnerable parts, or learn new ways to respond to lifes challenges, I allow the client to guide their journey of healing.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I began my work in graduate school 14 years ago using CBT. I found this approach effective and a way to assist clients in healing from within. I use up-to-date tools from this approach to promote that next level of healing in the mind and body.

Couples Counseling

I found 5 years ago my passion for helping couples who lost their way along the journey find ways to reconnect and re-ignite the spark. I utilize an attachment based model in addition to the Gottman method.

EMDR

Working with individuals trying to live after experiencing trauma is where my career began 10 years ago. Today, I work with clients to focus on identifying and processing the root causes of emotional distress, take power away from the trauma, or resolve other issues that may be affecting your well-being.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have used this approach to assist clients heal and live fulfilling lives after working through anxiety, PTSD, depression, and OCD.
