LPC, 8 years of experience
Hi, I'm Carlos. I appreciate the seriousness of this step you are taking in finding help and meaning. Opening up to share your vulnerabilities and hopes should not be taken lightly. I'm a firm believer of the individual’s ability for change. Furthermore, I believe that a strong professional relationship between the client and counselor is key to therapeutic success, and that this relationship is best fostered through an atmosphere of professionalism, trust, collaboration, and respect. Let me share with you some of my background. I have been with my wife for 27 interesting years and we are going strong. We have two children that we enjoy. The military has been a way of life for us. My professional therapeutic experience has centered on working with traumatized individuals of all ages and their families. Primarily within judicial and community organizations, I have worked with clients living with depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, domestic violence, familial conflict, childhood behavioral challenges, and environmental hardships.
By the conclusion of our professional relationship I aim for our collaborations to have helped you to have found motivation and hope for the future through defining what it is you want and need and a plan for progress.
My therapeutic approach is centered on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with supporting tenets from other evidenced-based therapies that may benefit the particular needs of a client. CBT helps individuals better understand how thought and emotion interact and impact behaviors, relationships, and life’s conditions. I am nationally rostered and experienced in the use of child-parent psychotherapy (CPP), a treatment model primed for children aged 0-5 which focuses on improving the traumatized child’s resiliency through his or her closest parental/caregiver relationship(s). And I utilize my EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training to help individuals process trauma and associated symptoms toward more resilient living.
Having worked as an early childhood therapist and within assisted living facilities I have gained an appreciation for the impact that all we experience can have on the quality of our lives. The past is important in understanding why we are in our present condition, as well as our strengths and weaknesses. Knowing this can help me to support you in building a plan for the future.
