Hello! I am a Licensed Clincal Social Worker (LCSW) practicing in Connecticut. I received my Master's from The UConn School of Social. I have worked for 18 years in a Community Based Behavorial Health Clinic that is part of a large antipoverty agency. My clinical and social work experience is both wide and diverse in terms of knowledge and clientele.
During the first session, we will go through an initial intake process which includes completing the intake form, beginning to look at what brought you into therapy and start to develop initial treament goals. We will also address your session schedule. The first session is also a getting to know you process that helps you feel like this will be a good therapeutic fit for you.
Having worked in a community based clinic for 18 years, I have a wide base of knowledge and experience with a diverse clientele. As a result I am culturally competent, flexible with change, thrive in challenging situations, know how to get to root causes sooner and have very good therapeutic boundaries.
I can work with individuals who are 18 years and older, who are feeling depression, anxiety, anger, panic and acute/post stress from situations past or present that are related to life stressors, trauma, substance use and chronic illness. In addition, I have experience working with people living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Elia Vecchitto offers therapy covered by Husky Health and Medicaid in Connecticut.
In general, my theraputic style is kind and direct, supportive, strenght based and skill oriented. My main treatment approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but will also combine it with Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing techniques. My goal is to help you understand, identify and healthfully manage the areas of your life that may be causing you pain, stress, challenge, discomfort or just feeling "stuck in place" in your life. In therapy we will begin to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and implement effective coping and management skills, so ultimately, you can move forward and be the best you.
