Elizabeth Walker
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Walker. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Valparaiso University. I’m a mother, grandmother, wife, and daughter with over 12 years of experience helping clients of various ages in various stages of life.. I’ve worked with children as young as 5, adolescents, and adults. When I’m not in my office, I’m enjoying family, sewing, playing the piano, doing yoga, out enjoying nature, or reading!
First session
In our first session, I’ll ask questions that help me get to know you and I’ll invite you to ask questions of me, too. Life is a journey, full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows, conflicts and celebration's. Sometimes we need a little help navigating the stressors and struggles we experience in our lives. Together we will collaboratively create a plan as we explore solutions to the concerns and challenges you’ve been experiencing in your own life journey.
Strengths
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, my approach is integrative, compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care, with a strong emphasis on creating safety, trust, and emotional regulation within the therapeutic relationship. I integrate EMDR, cognitive and dialectical behavioral strategies, mindfulness practices, and iRest Yoga Nidra to support clients across the lifespan in processing difficult experiences, strengthening coping skills, and building resilience. When working with children, I tailor therapy to be developmentally appropriate, supportive, and engaging, while also collaborating with caregivers as needed. I have extensive experience supporting clients through life transitions, chronic stress, grief, behavioral challenges, and trauma-related concerns. I strive to offer a calm, supportive space where clients of all ages feel seen, respected, and empowered to move at a pace that feels right for them.
Ideal clients
My clients range in age from 5 to senior citizens! Many have struggled with anxiety, grief, depression, anger, ADHD, self harm, suicidal ideation, and trauma.
Treatment methods
Eclectic
I practice from a Client Centered approach, meaning we will create a treatment plan together, and I will draw from various modalities therapy tailored to your goals and needs.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
One of the first assumptions of DBT is “people are doing the best they can!” DBT is effective for people who struggle with controlling emotions and behaviors. I will incorporate DBT skills for clients looking for coping skills!
EMDR
I am EMDR trained. I’ve loved seeing the changes in people’s lives as they process past trauma with EMDR. I’ve used EMDR with children and adults.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I am a Level 2 IRest Yoga Nidra teacher and love incorporating this practice of mindfulness meditation in practice.
Play Therapy
In my office, I often use games with children and teens with a therapeutic twist.
