Marc Roman
Welcome! I am Marc Roman, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 20 years of experience helping individuals and couples navigate life's challenges. My practice, Mytalkingcure, is entirely virtual, offering convenient, high-quality weekly remote sessions to clients throughout California. To ensure our sessions are fully focused on you, I utilize AI transcription tools to seamlessly assist with note-taking. This allows me to step away from administrative distractions and devote my complete attention to listening, understanding what troubles you, and guiding you toward meaningful healing and growth in every session..
First session
In our initial session, we will focus on getting to know each other, discussing what brings you to therapy, and taking a comprehensive look at your personal background and history. My primary goal is for you to leave feeling heard, comfortable, and confident that you are in a safe, non-judgmental space. We will gently explore your current challenges, clarify what you hope to achieve, and ensure that my approach aligns well with your goals before we begin our ongoing work together.second session will be an
Strengths
Being in my late 50s allows me to bring a depth of life and professional experience that only time can teach. Before my current practice, I taught English in Asia, cared for the elderly as a CNA, directed a suicide prevention hotline, supported those grieving suicide loss, served patients with debilitating HIV, and counselled those facing complex mental health and substance use challenges. These diverse roles have honed my ability to discern exactly what a client needs—whether that is gentle, reflective holding of space or a supportive push. My natural approach is to walk alongside you, sitting quietly and letting you guide our direction, while drawing on two decades of clinical insight to help you navigate where you need to go.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is an adult (30+ or older individual)—often gay men or strongly LGBTQ+ affirming and kink friendly—who is psychologically minded and ready and willing to engage actively in meaningful personal growth. They are looking for a collaborative therapeutic relationship, can commit to weekly sessions, and arrive ready to bring specific topics, challenges, or goals to explore together in each session.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
During our sessions, I will help you identify and reframe automatic thought patterns that contribute to your anxiety, stress, or feeling stuck. Together, we look at how these thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact, developing practical strategies and concrete tools you can apply in daily life to break unhelpful cycles and create lasting change.
Psychodynamic
At other times, I will help you explore how your past experiences and unconscious relational patterns shape your present thoughts, emotions, and interactions. Together, we look below the surface to bring underlying defense mechanisms, core beliefs, and unresolved conflicts into awareness, giving you greater insight into recurring life patterns and creating space for more meaningful, long-term personal growth.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Our work will not only focus on your past. In solution focused interventions, we will focus on your strengths and future possibilities rather than dwelling on past problems. Together, we will identify what is already working in your life, set clear and achievable goals, and map out practical, action-oriented steps to help you build momentum and create meaningful progress in a short amount of time.
