Hi, I'm Pamela Altemos, Are you experiencing a mind-body disconnection? Perhaps you are feeling emotionally numb and detached from physical sensations and present experiences. Trauma disrupts the foundation of the body as a safe place, affecting survivors’ trust of self needed to establish and maintain healthy relationships with others. As a yoga instructor and therapist specializing in trauma, I help survivors rebuild a sense of trust and safety in the body by incorporating somatic exercises, breathwork, and relational skills. Through this holistic approach, clients are able to tolerate sensory and emotional experiences to cultivate a compassionate relationship with their bodies. In addition to the breathwork and somatic techniques, I incorporate modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). My practice honors an integrative approach that cultivates gentleness, acceptance, and compassion toward ourselves and others.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The intention of the first session is to gather and to provide more information to generate a plan for therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

You don’t have to go through this alone. You don’t have to hurt alone. Through a strong and supportive therapeutic alliance, my clients are able to challenge undesirable symptoms and beliefs to begin their journey of healing.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I facilitate EMDR to address memories of trauma or difficult experiences by dismantling negative belief about self through bilateral stimulation. Throughout my 14 years of practicing EMDR, I have observed clients' ability to heal from memories of trauma by installing positive beliefs about self. I believe that everything "comes from somewhere" and EMDR helps survivors to understand triggers and symptoms to facilitate ongoing healing.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate the four skills sets of DBT (i.e., mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness) to help clients to effectively manage stressors and adjustment with intention and regulation.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I have facilitated CPT as a supplement to EMDR or when EMDR is not accessible.

Gender-affirming therapy

I have more than 10 years of experience working with transgender and gender non-conforming populations, and continuing education in gender diversity. I have provided support for gender-affirming procedures and surgeries.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I utilized IFS to help clients to improve self-awareness, self-compassion, peace, and balance through a deeper understanding of different aspects/parts of self.
