Hi, I'm Emily! Oof-Change is hard and I am so glad you're here! When there is too much pain in life, we can feel overwhelmed, powerless, or stuck. Using evidence-based practices, I will work with you to build tools, examine your patterns and obstacles, and empower your strengths and inner wisdom so you can emerge with a greater sense of meaning and the ability to move in a new direction. I work collaboratively with my clients and describe my style as warm, thoughtful, creative, transparent, and empowering. I meet each person where they're at and respect the resistance that often accompanies change. Together we'll figure out what hasn't worked and why and try new ways of creating the life you want. While I tailor the work towards each individual, I enjoy introducing creative interventions beyond typical "talk therapy" including writing, art, role play, bibliotherapy, and apps.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Like much in life, effective therapy depends upon the quality of the relationship. Finding a good fit is crucial to this process and I will engage at a pace that fits your comfort level. I strongly encourage you to schedule a 15 min consultation with me to determine fit prior to schedule the initial appointment. Our initial session will involve a broad assessment of your concerns, strengths, and goals for therapy. We'll start building trust and I will check-in and see if you feel we'd be a good fit.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that expression, creativity, culture and humor are vital in the work of exploring and expanding one's self. With a background in creative arts therapy, I strongly believe that play in its many forms is healing.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

While eclectic is a broad term, I'd say this encompasses the broad toolbox I've built in my 17 years as a practitioner. I am humanistic, believe inherently in human potential, and utilize many ideas from positive psychology. I've also received training in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) and offer these concrete tools when indicated. My masters degree in counseling psychology focused on drama therapy, so I enjoy bringing art and creativity into sessions depending on clients.
