Hello. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and certified school counselor in Texas and have been practicing for 17 years. I received my Master's degree from the University of Houston at Victoria in 2006. I was also a general education and special education teacher for 15 years prior to going into counseling. My licenses and certifications follow: Licensed Professional Counselor and LPC Supervisor School Counselor Principal Legacy Master Reading Teacher Classroom Teacher - Early Childhood through 12th grade Generic Special Education Teacher - Early Childhood through 12th grade English as a Second Language Teacher - Early Childhood through 12th grade
In our first session we will begin establishing the therapeutic relationship. We will discuss what brought the client to therapy, set goals and develop strategies to help achieve the goals.
My greatest strengths as a provider are that I have good interpersonal skills and am multiculturally sensitive. I am a good listener and can communicate effectively. I am warm, accepting and empathetic. In addition, I am a hopeful and optimistic person. Where a client is right now does not determine where he/she will go. It simply determines where we will start.
I love working with clients of all ages and stages in life. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, retired school counselor and general education and special education teacher, wife, mother and grandmother, I know that life can be full of struggles and adjustments. Change is inevitable but can also be a time of growth.
With Cognitive Behavioral Therapy I help clients identify patterns of negative or inaccurate thinking that influence their emotional responses and behaviors and replace them with healthier patterns of thinking. I have used CBT with children, adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and ADHD.
With Solution Focused Brief Treatment, I help clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. I have used it to treat people of all ages with behavioral difficulties, ADHD, low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, substance abuse/addiction and relationship issues.
With Person-centered Therapy, I help clients by being a compassionate facilitator who listens without judgment and acknowledges the client’s experience. I am there to encourage and support. I have used this treatment method to help people with self-esteem issues, grief and interpersonal relationships.
