I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida and I also have my CAP, Certified Addictions Professional. While the beginning of my work resided solely in addictions I have also had experiences in a variety of settings counseling clients from different backgrounds, diagnoses, ages, and life concerns.

While the beginning of my work resided solely in addictions I have also had experiences in a variety of settings counseling clients from different backgrounds, diagnoses, ages, and life concerns.

There are many different approaches to counseling and through sessions I work with my clients to identify the best path or interventions for them. My foundation is through CBT and Solution-Focused; how our thoughts affect feelings and behaviors and identifying specific and practical steps to assist clients in dad-to-day changes to ultimately reach their goal. There are many approaches or methods to counseling and depending on the client needs, I will use other interventions as well.

First session

Client's first sessions are dedicated to rapport building, learning about each other, and information gathering. Coming to counseling can be scary for some people and clients need to feel at ease and that they are in an environment that is safe to share. Clients can begin their counseling journey wherever they see fit and I work with clients at their pace. By the end of the first session we discuss what the overall goals are that the client would like to meet or acheive.

Strengths

My time in counseling has taught me to be laid back and ease into counselor as a client is comfortable. I have been able to develop a flexibility to come along side clients and start where they are comfortable. Based on client responses I have been able to build a great rapport which lays the foundation to begin doing the harder work, builds trusts, and helps clients understand that I am there to help and be a cheerleader when the client struggles. Sessions are very conversation with therapeutic techniques woven in and that approach seems to work well. Having worked in a variety of settings I also bring experiences from places like residential treatment for mental health and substance use, crisis units, day treatment programs, outpatient programs, and in-home services.

Ideal clients

There are no preferred clients however due to my work schedule I tend to see adults only as I do not have afternoon appointments available. I welcome any and all clients and if I am unable to serve your needs I assist with finding the right referrals and/or guiding clients to the agency that can best serve the needs.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

From personal experience and success with my clients, I have seen the benefits and healing work of CBT. It is an empowering technique that helps reduce intense emotions and gives clients a true and realistic perspective on themselves, others, and life.

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment

Identifying what the problem is and how it would look if the problem wasn't there is a very basic description of Solution-Focused. I use this often with clients to assist in identifying practical, day-to-day steps, that can be cultivated and utilized to address presenting concerns. I find people, myself included, want a practical approach and hands-on-tools to help and using Solution Focused Therapy provides this.

Faith-based therapy

Faith is an important part of who I am and I have seen the benefits in having a belief in something or someone greater than ourselves. While I identify as a Christian this does not mean I only do sessions from that perspective. If a client wants faith incorporated into their therapy, we do that and if it is unwanted, it is not addressed. My disclaimer for Christian counseling is I do not bring a bible into sessions with me but conduct session from a overall application of biblical principles if needed.

Narrative

The stories we've told ourselves or that have been told to us have a great impact on the way we think, feel, and behave (the foundation of CBT). For myself and my clients I have found letter writing, journaling, rewriting a story viewing it from a different perspective, have all had significant positive outcomes on clients and I have seen the amazing results in my own life too.
