Akeera Peterkin

LCSW (she/they)10 years of experience

Hi, I’m Akeera Peterkin (she/her). My clients describe me as genuine, compassionate, and personable. I see therapy as an allyship—walking alongside you through challenges while making sure you feel heard, respected, and supported. I specialize in working with trauma, identity, and life stressors, holding space for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, TGNC, students, creatives, and others navigating adversity. My approach is inclusive, affirming, and tailored to your goals, blending evidence-based practices with a culturally sensitive lens. My goal is to help you feel safe, explore who you are, and build the tools you need to thrive. Whether you’re working through inner conflicts or external challenges, you don’t have to do it alone—I’m here to support you.

First session

Your first session—like most of our work together—is guided by you. While I may have questions to help us explore what brings you in, I believe the pace and depth of sharing should come from your comfort level. You are free to share as little or as much as you’d like as we begin building our relationship. I hold a core belief that being a therapist does not entitle me to your story. Trust is something that must be earned, not assumed, and I work intentionally to create an environment where you feel seen, respected, and supported. My role is to bring an energy of care and consistency that supports your process, so that over time, trust can naturally grow and meaningful healing can take place.

Strengths

What sets my approach apart is the belief that therapy is an allyship, not a hierarchy. I do not assume entitlement to someone’s story—trust is built, not given—and I center each session around your pace, needs, and comfort. My methods are eclectic and culturally responsive, blending evidence-based practices with an affirming, anti-oppressive lens. This allows me to tailor therapy to each individual, whether we are processing trauma, navigating identity, or setting life goals. Clients often share that they feel genuinely seen, respected, and supported in our work together. Over time, this trust-based process not only supports healing but also fosters deeper self-understanding, resilience, and sustainable growth.

Communities I support include (but are not limited to): BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) LGBTQIA+, TGNC individuals Creative spirits, healers, introverts, empaths Community members, knowledge-seekers, and those reclaiming their healing
