Welcome! I am Marie Dillinger, a licensed therapist who has been working with individuals, couples and families pursuing counseling for over 17 years. My experience has centered around assisting adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty adjusting and adapting to the changes they are experiencing in life, grief and trauma. The philosophical foundation of my therapy is based on the understanding that what we think influences how we feel which impacts how we behave. Therefore, to change any behavior or feeling we first need to address our thinking. My goal in the counseling process is to assist you in improving the quality of your life by guiding you in how to manage, resolve, and/or reconcile those issues in your life creating difficulty for you.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions, if, at the end of the session that we are a good fit.
I will share what previous clients have said was the most valuable to them. They appreciate my authenticity, honesty, and skill set. They know that if I do need to confront them it is never in a hostile manner. My clients tell me they feel respected and supported in our relationship and believe I take the time to get a good understanding of their concerns. They express confidence in my expertise, stating that I have a variety of communication styles, can help de-escalate anxiety-laden moments, and listen well to their views. Clients state I have a knack for helping them see perspectives, outside their own, in situations. I think my biggest strength is the belief I hold and share with clients: As long as we're breathing, we have hope and can make the changes that will positively affect the quality of our life if we're willing to do the work.
The philosophical foundation of my therapy is based on the understanding that what we think influences how we feel which impacts how we behave. Therefore, to change any behavior or feeling we first need to address our thinking. I use a solution-focused approach where together we focus on the issue(s) most important to my client.
