From my point of view you are a unique expression of life—you bring a complex combination of experience, skills, resources, needs and hopes to the therapeutic process. This makes the therapeutic journey a distinctive harmony defined by the irreducible complexity of the human experience in relationship. I will meet you fully present on this journey dedicated to the practice of radical acceptance and in support of the mindful construction of your relationship with self, others, and our shared world. This journey is both the work and harvest of therapy. Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, I hold certification as a Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Instructor since 2011, a UCLA PEERS® Clinic Adolescents Certified Provider, trained in Mindful Schools curriculum, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and ASIST suicide prevention. I maintain requirements for the supervision of marriage and family interns, keep active membership in CAMFT since 2010 and actively engage in continuing education, research and developments within the field.
During our first session we will work together to identify the primary issues or symptoms that brought you to therapy, set clear goals for treatment, and explore our expectations for future therapy sessions. I will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding my education, experience, areas of specialization, theorhetical orientation, confidentiality, or the process of therapy.
I work from the theoretical viewpoints of Gestalt Therapy (an existential and experiential psychotherapy) and the work of Abraham Maslow (Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs towards Self Actualization), and bring a client centered, strength based, and solution focused approach to therapy. I utilize the evidenced based practices of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), and Mindfulness practices informed by Jungian Depth Psychology, the works of Joseph Campbell, and my personal belief in the innate capacity of every living being to heal and thrive. I believe my greatest strength is genuine curiosity to better understand the dreams of others combined with a flexibility in how to best support based on their unique strengths.
I practice acceptance and commitment therapy as part of Mindfulness informed practices and repeatedly turned to ACT interventions to support the process of identifying out of sync behavior patterns in order to align personal actions with guiding values. In practice, ACT is a powerful perspective building theory that encourages self reflection and develops the flexibility and motivation to try new ways.
CBT is weaved into the fabric of my practice. The relationship between thoughts, behaviors, and emotional wellbeing which is so often hard to define is given structure for exploring each element on its own and towards understanding how they interact.
There is magic in the perspective Gestalt practices invite into therapy. I've enjoyed integrating the empty chair technique over the years.
