New to Grow
My goal is to help clients who have trauma, specifically medical trauma, manage their symptoms and learn how to navigate life again! I am most interested in helping people connect to their mind and body again, so they truly feel like they are living in their bodies and being present. Therapy is a collaborative process, so there is a level of trust that must go into each client and each session. My areas of interest as a counselor are trauma-focused, veterans, medical trauma, depression/anxiety, substance use, and sexual assault survivors.
Therapy is not always easy and can often involve a lot of trust and compassion. My goal is to make each client feel like they can keep coming back for as long as they need. The first session is all about getting to know you and your needs, often doing assessment and identifying your goals.
I challenge clients' thinking. Often times, people believe their trauma to be fact and having a therapist who challenges these thoughts can often help clients heal. I also utilize top-down in combination with bottom-up modalities to address the whole person.
I want a client who is willing to do the hard work, wants to learn skills to help work through their trauma, and is okay with being challenged. I predominantly work with veterans and adults with medical trauma. My ideal clients want to get better and are willing to put in the work even when it's hard and challenging. I want clients who keep showing up even when they don't want to.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT as a way to help challenge client's thinking.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
This is best for people with PTSD who are struggling with letting go of beliefs about themselves, others, or the world.
EMDR
This is a technique I use for people who need a bottom-up approach and less talk-based therapy.
Somatic
This is best for people who are struggling with connection to body and mind.
Trauma Informed Care
I am a trauma-informed therapist and most of my experience and knowledge is centered in helping people process trauma.
