Ginger Bernard

LPCC4 years of experience

I'm Ginger Bernard, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), providing online therapy to adults and young adults throughout California. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma-related concerns, and life transitions, as well as those struggling with self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck in patterns they want to change. Whether you're navigating a specific challenge or simply feeling disconnected from yourself or the life you want, therapy can be a place to gain clarity and find a way forward. My approach is warm, collaborative, and insight-oriented. I believe meaningful change often begins with a deeper understanding of ourselves. Together, we'll explore the connections between your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and past experiences, while developing practical ways to navigate challenges and move toward what matters most to you.

Maybe you're doing well on the outside, but inside you feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from yourself. You may find yourself caught in self-doubt, overthinking, perfectionism, difficult emotions, or relationship patterns that you want to understand and change.

I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based techniques, tailoring our work to your individual needs. My goal is to help you develop greater self-awareness, build self-trust, and feel more connected to yourself and the life you want to create.

First session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin exploring what brings you to therapy. We'll start by reviewing a few practical details, including practice policies and informed consent. From there, we'll talk about your experiences, current concerns, and what you're hoping to gain from our work together. There's no pressure to share everything at once. We'll take our time and move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Strengths

I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely understood, respected, and able to be yourself. I take a collaborative and compassionate approach, seeing you as the expert on your own life while offering curiosity, perspective, and support as we work toward meaningful change. Together, we may explore the connections between your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and past experiences, including the ways those experiences may continue to affect you in the present. We might slow down and get curious about what happens inside you when you feel overwhelmed—what you're thinking, what you're feeling, what your body is telling you, and what you feel compelled to do next. From there, we'll work together to understand the pattern and practice responding in a way that feels more intentional.

Ideal clients

Maybe you're doing well on the outside, but inside you feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from yourself. You may find yourself caught in self-doubt, overthinking, perfectionism, difficult emotions, or relationship patterns that you want to understand and change. I help adults and young adults find clarity, reconnect with what matters, and develop practical ways to create meaningful change. You don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Treatment methods

Compassion-Focused

Self-compassion is about how we talk to ourselves and how we respond when we're struggling. Research shows that practicing self-compassion can help reduce self-criticism, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen our ability to soothe ourselves during difficult moments. I've found that this approach can be especially helpful in reducing the shame and self-criticism that often add to our suffering. We can be our own harshest critics, and offering ourselves the same kindness and understanding we give others doesn't always come naturally. Learning to respond to ourselves with compassion may seem simple, but it can make a meaningful difference in how we feel, how we see ourselves, and how we navigate life's challenges.
