LCSW, 7 years of experience
Welcome! I am a licensed psychotherapist specializing in trauma/PTSD, as well as mood and anxiety related concerns. With experience in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings, I offer comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals facing a range of mental health challenges. My therapeutic approach is down-to-earth and interactive. I draw from a variety of theoretical frameworks and tailor my approach to suit each client's developmental stage, personal preferences and needs. I began my career as a medical social worker in community health and policy under the Ryan White Act where I worked with individuals living with HIV/AIDS. I later transitioned to inpatient psychiatric care and crisis intervention services, supporting high-risk populations with co-occurring mental health and medical diagnoses. Currently, I maintain a dual clinical role in both private practice and community-based nonprofit agencies serving children, adolescents, and families involved in the foster care system, as well as survivors of domestic and sexual violence. I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania and earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California.
During our first session, we will review informed consent, which includes relevant policies, expectations, procedures, and your rights as a patient. We will then complete a standard psychiatric assessment so that I can better understand you, your environment, your history and goals for treatment. Having been a patient myself, I understand that this process can feel daunting but the great news is that you've already taken the first step! I’ll be sure to meet you where you're at as an equal, and I'll always welcome feedback as we work together.
I am committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space in which ALL clients feel empowered to explore their identities, life experiences, and their unique strengths and challenges.
I work with individuals, families and groups ages 8+ across the lifespan, and I truly enjoy collaborating with a diverse range of populations. I am happy to answer any questions about my training and/or specific therapeutic techniques that I use.
At the core of my practice is a person-centered approach, where I prioritize each individual's unique needs and experiences. While I am trained in and utilize a variety of well-established therapies (those of the cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, trauma-focused and family-based varieties with some listed below), I believe that no single approach is superior to another as each has its own strengths and limitations. I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship we develop is the most powerful tool of all.
ACT is a therapeutic approach designed to help promote psychological flexibility through use of acceptance and mindfulness based strategies.
I am trained in and practice a variety of trauma-based interventions including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART; similar to EMDR). Many of these interventions can be adapted virtually.
DBT is a more structured, skill-based intervention to promote distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.
Psychodynamic therapy is used to uncover and address the root causes of psychological distress through self-reflection, self-examination and use of the therapeutic relationship.
