Seeking counseling can be a overwhelming and anxiety producing experience beyond "the why" of what brought you here. Building a relationship of trust to be vulnerable with a complete stranger is one of the hardest things we can do as humans. Chronic stress from past experiences and intergenerational trauma/stress are often hidden or very present parts of ourselves often creating a tangled web of connection within and attachments with others. In partnership with my clients, I assist them in emerging from within themselves with an increased positive connections, self image, self forgiveness, and a focus on their life goals. When we work together the aim is to assist you in finding balance, clarity and focus for your life goals through a lens of healing.
First session is really the nuts and bolts of why we are going to work together. This means we are talking about what you have been experiencing that has brought you here, how that has disrupted you day to day life, and creating the initial plan to help you. I consider this one of the most important sessions we will have as it is the first steps to building a trusting relationship where you can grow and explore your world in safety.
First and foremost your healing process is highly individual. From my end, therapeutic rapport is the most important part to building trust which leads to open communication. I regularly review and check in regarding areas of focus of work we are doing. Come on into session with a cup of coffee, water, or tea, get cozy and comfortable with privacy. Also, don't be surprised to be visited by Pennie my 12 year old Tuxedo cat. She likes to say "Hi." This is an open forum and often I find the random nervous "dream" or incident my clients bring up often has roots in topics we have been working through and parts that wish to come forward and be explored, accepted, and healed.
I find some people come in looking to quell and learn to manage difficult thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in their day to day life first and foremost. These are often my clients that first need a sense of stability then a break before coming back to work through deeper parts of themselves.
My approach is eclectic but always aims to provide unconditional positive regard, there is no cookie cutter approach to healing. Some modalities I often utilize in sessions are Somatic Parts Work, Emotional Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Hypnotherapy, and Trauma Informed CBT practices.
This modality is utilized in a solution focused lens in conjunction with the client to alleviate physical, emotional, and mental symptoms that impede day to day living and growth.
