I’m Dr. Juan M. Hernandez, a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of JMH Psychological Services, LLC. I specialize in helping individuals, including military personnel and veterans, overcome challenges related to anxiety, trauma, and emotional well-being, using evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, and trauma-focused therapies. I understand the unique stressors and experiences faced by those who serve or have served, and I’m committed to providing a supportive and collaborative space where we can address these challenges together. Whether it’s managing stress, improving relationships, navigating life transitions, or processing the impact of military life, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other and understanding what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions about your concerns, personal history, and goals for treatment to better understand your needs. We’ll explore what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past and discuss how therapy can support you moving forward. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the process and share what you hope to gain. Together, we’ll create a plan tailored to your unique circumstances, setting the foundation for a supportive and collaborative partnership.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider stem from my diverse life experiences and unique professional background. I took a non-traditional path into psychology, starting with military service, transitioning into federal agency work, and gaining experience in various fields before establishing my private practice. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of resilience, adaptability, and the challenges faced in different walks of life. I bring a practical, down-to-earth approach to therapy, combining evidence-based techniques with real-world insights. This allows me to connect with clients from all backgrounds, helping them feel understood, supported, and empowered to overcome their challenges.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am best positioned to serve individuals who are motivated to improve their emotional well-being and make meaningful changes in their lives. My expertise is particularly suited to those experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression, or significant life transitions. I work well with adults, young adults, and adolescents seeking support in managing stress, building healthier relationships, and overcoming emotional challenges. Clients who are open to evidence-based treatments like CBT, ACT, or trauma-focused approaches, and who value a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic relationship, often find success in working with me. Additionally, as a bilingual psychologist fluent in Spanish, I am uniquely equipped to support Spanish-speaking clients and multicultural families.
