Living with Anxiety, Depression, Panic or OCD can feel overwhelming. It can make tasks at work feel like it’s all too much to handle. In our personal lives, it can make us feel disconnected from the people we love as well as the activities we used to derive happiness from. Even though we develop ways to cope and talking with friends and family can help, these feelings never really fully go away. Thankfully, a structured approach to therapy can help. It is possible to feel comfortable or even excited to interact with people, enjoy your work each day and find meaning! As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 15 years of counseling experience, I place an emphasis on establishing therapeutic goals, developing a plan and highlighting the progress clients make towards personal change. I also understand the importance of establishing a genuine therapeutic connection based on compassion and empathy with each person I work with. In my experience, this serves as the foundation for meaningful progress in therapy. My primary approaches to counseling include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered and Solution Focused Therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Sometimes starting therapy can feel overwhelming. Perhaps you aren't sure what to expect or have had negative experiences in therapy in the past. During the first session, I like to start by having clients describe in detail what brought them to therapy. I complete a comprehensive and holistic intake so that I understand each of the challenges my clients are facing. Lastly, we will establish clear and measurable goals for our work together. This allows us to know each week that progress is being made and if not, help us identify areas that can use a different approach.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe that my ability to relate to others, my strong sense of empathy and knowledge of counseling techniques are my greatest strengths. I have celebrated huge victories in my work with my clients! I have seen them achieve their goals, large and small, and ensured that ultimately they took the credit for their progress. Therapy works best when there is a sincere, therapeutic connection between the client and the therapist. That connection, in combination with evidence-based, structured interventions are essential. I entered this field to help people and I am still as motivated as ever to do so.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their challenges. I also collaborate with clients to set specific goals and identify practical strategies to challenge and reframe unhelpful thoughts, ultimately promoting healthier behaviors and improved emotional regulation. Specific CBT techniques I typically use are cognitive restructuring, behavioral experiments and homework assignments that are tailored to each client's unique needs, fostering lasting positive change in their lives.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused Brief Treatment has served as a powerful option for many of my clients. When utilizing SFBT, I focus on the clients strengths and resources to facilitate rapid problem-solving, I engage clients in identifying their goals and envisioning a preferred future, using scaling questions, miracle questions and exception seeking to amplify positive changes. I find that SFBT emphasizes collaboration, empowering clients to generate solutions that align with their personal values and strengths, fostering efficient and effective therapy outcomes.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

A Person-Centered approach is at the core of my work with all of my clients. I like to create an environment where clients feels heard, understood and accepted without judgement. I prioritize empathy, unconditional positive regard and genuineness to help clients explore their feelings, experiences and values at their own pace. This approach also encourages clients to tap into their innate capacity for growth and self-understanding, empowering them to make meaningful changes in their lives based on their own insights and motivations.
