I help teens and women heal from complex childhood trauma, neglect, and abuse—especially when those experiences show up as people-pleasing, identity loss, painful relationships, intense emotions, or a complicated relationship with food and their bodies.
I became a therapist because this work genuinely matters to me. Over the past nine years, I have seen how trauma can remain hidden beneath perfectionism, overachievement, unhealthy relationships, disordered eating, and the feeling that you have no idea who you are because you spent so long surviving. I also understand that trauma symptoms are frequently misunderstood, treated only at the surface, or confused with features associated with diagnoses such as Borderline Personality Disorder or Bipolar Disorder. I take time to understand the whole person—not just the label.
I am warm, down-to-earth, and honest. I balance validation with respectfully challenging the beliefs and behaviors that keep you stuck.
I have ADHD, three tiny chihuahua coworkers named Bryn, Blair, and Bowie, plus licenses to provide therapy in Florida, Illinois, Texas, and Colorado. I am proudly a girls’ girl, and my practice is mainly focused on the mental health and relational experiences of teens and women. *I generally do not work with men for therapy*

Hello, my name is Vanessa, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Carolina. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and I provide counseling in both languages to best support my clients’ needs.
My professional background in mental health began during my undergraduate and graduate studies, where I gained experience working with children through the Department of Children & Families, with older adults in skilled nursing facilities, and with adolescents in group homes. Over the years, I have expanded my work to include diverse populations and settings. I served as a Nurse Navigator at one of the largest cancer hospitals in South Florida, providing counseling and advocacy for oncology patients and their families. I have also worked with adults in inpatient rehabilitation for substance use treatment, facilitated care for court-ordered clients, and supported outpatient clients within the LGBTQ+ community.
I draw from multiple evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and individualized treatment planning. My focus is to meet clients where they are, help them return to a baseline where they feel comfortable and capable, and empower them to navigate life’s challenges.
I consider myself open-minded, compassionate, and deeply empathetic. My mantra is simple: I am here for you. My role is to walk alongside you, provide tools and support, and help you manage both daily stressors and long-standing challenges. Life can feel like a roller coaster—full of unexpected changes, emotions, and pressures—but with the right support, it’s possible to find balance, peace, and overall well-being.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with nine years of experience working with families and children in crises such as divorce, job loss, relocation, etc. I help my client (s) overcome any difficulty preventing them from becoming the best version of themselves. Thank you very much for checking here; I am honored to serve you. My 17+ years of experience includes many years of counseling and listening, across various cultures, ages and personal client needs, with a few years as adjunct professor at Louisiana State University, Shreveport, LA: 3 years of work as a patient counselor in a hospital psychiatric unit, and 3 years of practice in a pediatric clinic. My current solo practice is empathetic, accepting and non-judgmental, having also practiced as an EAP (employee counselor) in a very large hospital and city system, in which I was required to see anyone for any situation or issue they may bring to counseling. This unique opportunity provided me with insights and understanding of people beyond my own personal scope of experience. I believe this has made me more sensitive to the needs, hurts and stress of the various clients I serve. I am generally available 6 days a week for appointments, because I really do enjoy my practice and my clients. I am licensed in Louisiana, Oregon and Florida and serve clients in those states, as well as in overseas countries.
I am old enough to enjoy my 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchild, together with my wife in a delightful sharing relationship. This creates a relaxed, accepting and strong relationship and family foundation for your counseling needs. My personal strengths hopefully convey to you a caring and positive mindset as we work together.
My hobbies are sailing, backpacking, snow skiing and cooking (especially apple pies:)

The great poet Rumi wrote "out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there." That field is a space where calm, love and forgiveness exist. There is no judgement, only acceptance here. And in that soul space you are free to find those fragments of you that are lost, and begin to piece them back together.
I'm licensed in both Florida and Michigan. As a licensed clinical therapist and licensed substance abuse counselor, I have experience running very powerful substance abuse and co-occurring groups. Prior to that, I worked as a social worker in Flint, Michigan for many years as a therapist, caseworker and in crisis intervention. My experiences have given me such a rich experience and exposure to the many factors that contribute to our personal mental health and well-being. I've been fortunate to work with people in their homes, in the community, with their families as well as the private practice setting which have given me a much richer experience than just an of an office setting alone.

I am empathic and love building upon clients' existing strengths and each individual's resiliency and perseverance to want to be a better version of themselves.
A WORLD VIEW approach to overcoming setbacks.
I have international experience in Europe and the US through educational and professional background in psychiatric services that ENHANCES HOPE and RESILIENCE to overcome LIFE SPAN issues relating to mental health, substance addiction and offending behavior difficulties. I believe in a pollination of growth ideas which encompasses diverse cultural ways of problem resolution.
As a therapist, wife, mother of two, bonus mom to two stepchildren, and owner of an exotic animal rescue, I bring not only my 14+ years of clinical experience but also the wisdom gained from my full and colorful life. My experiences navigating single parenthood, blended family dynamics, and caring for a large and diverse household have shaped my perspective, giving me a deep understanding of the joys, challenges, and chaos that come with balancing family, relationships, and self-care.

You can be the strong one and still be tired. You can love your family and still feel overwhelmed. You can have a good life and still know something doesn’t feel right.
I’m Maitey “Mya” Etienne, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Mind & Heart Connect. For over 16 years, I’ve worked with people who are carrying a lot sometimes quietly. Anxiety, relationship problems, grief, trauma, parenting stress, overthinking, major life changes, or simply feeling like you’ve lost yourself somewhere along the way.
My style is not stiff or overly clinical. I’m going to talk with you, not at you. We’ll laugh when appropriate, have the uncomfortable conversations when necessary, and get to the heart of what’s really going on.
I believe therapy should be a place where you can take the mask off. You don’t have to come in knowing exactly what to say or where to start. Bring the confusion, the frustration, the tears, the “I don’t even know anymore” we can start there.
At Mind & Heart Connect, the goal isn’t to create a perfect version of you. It’s to help you understand yourself, heal what needs healing, set boundaries without guilt, communicate more effectively, and feel more confident in the life you’re creating.
I'm a seasoned Licensed Therapist with over 20 years of experience, passionately transforming negative thinking into positive mindsets. My greatest strengths lie in empathy and active listening, ensuring clients feel truly understood and supported. As a mindset influencer, I create a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients are comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. Committed to providing the highest quality care, I continuously strive to foster personal growth and resilience in every client, turning challenges into opportunities for transformation and empowerment.
