New to Grow
Hello, and welcome. I'm Kanilina Clerge, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of KC Counseling and Wellness. We specialize in helping adults and couples navigate the impact of trauma on relationships, emotional well-being, and daily life. Our approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. We integrate evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and relationship-focused interventions to help clients build insight, develop healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful change. If you're struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, trust issues, emotional overwhelm, or the lasting effects of difficult life experiences, We strive to provide a supportive space where healing, growth, and deeper connection can occur.
Your first session is an opportunity to begin building a comfortable and supportive therapeutic relationship. During this session, your therapist will take time to learn more about you, your current concerns, relevant life experiences, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, you will discuss your goals, explore any challenges that may be impacting your well-being, and identify areas of focus for treatment. There is no pressure to share everything at once, as therapy is a process, and your therapist will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Our goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of how therapy can support your growth and healing.
What sets our approach apart is our focus on understanding not only what is happening in your life today, but also how past experiences may be shaping your current thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, we tailor therapy to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals. At KC Counseling and Wellness, we emphasize genuine connection, collaboration, and practical tools that clients can use outside of sessions. We integrate evidence-based approaches with a trauma-informed and relationship-focused perspective, helping clients create meaningful, lasting change rather than simply managing symptoms. Whether you are seeking individual or couples therapy, our goal is to provide a supportive space where you can gain insight, build resilience, strengthen relationships, and move toward the life you want to create.
I specialize in helping adults and couples navigate the intersection of trauma and relationships. If you find yourself repeating the same arguments, struggling to trust others, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, or wondering why relationships seem so difficult despite your best efforts, therapy can help. My clients are often high-functioning individuals who appear successful on the outside but carry unresolved pain, anxiety, self-doubt, or relationship wounds beneath the surface. Together, we work to understand how past experiences influence current thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationship patterns. My goal is to help clients develop healthier relationships with themselves and others, improve emotional regulation, strengthen communication, and create lasting change that extends beyond the therapy room.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
CPT is an evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals recover from trauma and PTSD. CPT helps you identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs that may have developed after difficult experiences, such as feelings of guilt, shame, self-blame, or mistrust. Through this process, you can develop healthier perspectives, reduce trauma-related symptoms, and improve their relationships, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.
Couples Counseling
Couples Counseling helps partners improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and navigate challenges such as conflict, trust issues, life transitions, intimacy concerns, and the impact of past experiences on the relationship. I work collaboratively with couples to identify unhelpful patterns, foster understanding, and develop practical skills that support a healthier, more fulfilling relationship. My approach is informed by attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based relationship interventions.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals develop skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, tolerate distress, and stay present in the moment. DBT can be especially helpful for those struggling with emotional overwhelm, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem concerns, or difficulty regulating emotions. I use DBT skills to help clients build healthier coping strategies and create lasting change in their daily lives.
Family Therapy
Family Therapy helps family members improve communication, strengthen relationships, and work through challenges together in a supportive environment. Family therapy can be beneficial for addressing conflict, parenting concerns, life transitions, behavioral issues, and the impact of stress or mental health challenges on the family system. I work collaboratively with families to foster understanding, build healthier patterns of interaction, and create a more connected and supportive home environment.
Eclectic
Eclectic Therapy is a flexible approach that allows me to tailor treatment to each client's unique needs rather than relying on a single therapy model. I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed therapies, attachment-based interventions, and mindfulness techniques, to create a personalized treatment plan. This allows us to focus on the strategies and tools that are most effective for your specific goals, challenges, and strengths.
