Hello, my name is Tanya Frausto. I proudly identify as a bilingual, first-generation Latina college graduate, daughter of immigrants, who comes from a low-income background. I earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego, a master’s degree in social work from San Diego State University, and am licensed in the state of California. I have 14 years in the helping profession serving clients in all stages of life from school-aged children to the elderly.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we will do introductions to make sure we are a good fit for each other. We will then move to the challenges that bring you to therapy, and exploring ways in which we can address them.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a practitioner, I use techniques and approaches that are evidenced based, and I apply them in a way that it is easy for my clients to understand. The feedback that I have received from my clients is that after our time together, they feel equipped with the tools to manage their challenges (anxiety, depression, body issues, marital conflict, etc) independently. I have also been told that I am relatable, and "real" when it comes to sharing some of my own life experiences.

My treatment methods

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I implement IFS and concepts of it when I want to help a client better understand their parts, and how these are working hard to protect them. Clients find that by getting curious about their parts, they can understand their purpose and thus approach them with compassion.

Compassion Focused

I use Compassion Focused modalities based on the teachings of Dr. Gabor Mate's Compassionate Inquiry. Rather than placing blame on ourselves for the things we do, we get curious about our decision-making process and why it is that we do the things we do.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I love using mindfulness-based interventions not only because I see it work, but because there is a large body of science that shows it works. Because of the the neuroplasticity in our brains, mindfulness is useful in rewiring them!

Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal has been a useful treatment method when helping clients be more attuned to their body, and how it reacts to different people, places, and/or things. Learning about our nervous system, and its functions can help us be aware of situations that either bring us to safety and connection versus danger and disconnection.

Trauma Informed Care

Regardless of our upbringing, everyone has dealt with traumas, whether they are small "t" traumas or big "T" traumas. I based a lot of this intervention on the work and research of trauma doctors and specialists, Dr. Gabor Mate, Dr. Bruce Perry, and Dr. Nadine Burke Harris.
