LPC, 5 years of experience
Hola/Hello! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Houston TX. I received my MS from University of Houston Clear Lake, and I have been practicing for 5+ years. I work with adolescents and young adults who have experienced trauma and need help transitioning into adult life. I also have experience and enjoy helping women in different life challenging situations, from domestic violence to career burn-out. Besides my degree in counseling, I hold a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies and I'm a former academic with extensive training and expertise in cultural identity issues due to migration, feminist theory and gender. I'm fully bilingual (Spanish and English), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy certified and EMDR trained.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, and I will focus on learning about you and specific needs and challenges you're facing. I will meet you where you are and prepare a tailored treatment plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I'm empathetic and compassionate with extensive experience in helping people, particularly minorities, overcome life-challenges, find hope and a path towards feeling fulfillment in their lives.
I'm passionate about working with adolescents, young adults and adults experiencing life-transitions, and /or dealing with trauma, depression and facing cultural challenges, such as acculturation, trauma due to microaggressions or discrimination.
I'm TF-CBT certified and have four+ years of experience with this treatment method, working mainly with adolescents.
I have been trained in EMDR in 2022-2023 and in the proces of being certified. This treatment method is very effective with clients who have experienced trauma and have difficulty processing through traditional talk-therapy based methods.
I have been trained and ususally integrate Mindfulness-Based therapy and DBT to my practice, particularly when assessment proves this approach could be benefitial for the client.
It is an integral part of my philosophy to approach my clients with compassion and from a non-judgmental perspective.
It is one of my priorities to approach my clients from a culturally sensitive standpoint. I strive to continously educate myself, strengthen my cultural awareness and keep an open mind to prevent any type of cultural bias.

I chose this therapist by her name and possible background culture. I needed someone who would understand how my culture plays a role in why I was seeking therapy. Finding solutions and still maintaining healthy relationships within my family and learning to make more rational decisions instead of emotional ones or doing things according to culture and tradition knowing it’s not a relevant choice but not having a healthier option are why I chose her to help me on this journey of healing.
