I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a Bangladeshi American and Multicultural Woman, a daughter of two immigrants, an older sister, a pet-mom of two adorable cats, an artist, a singer, a 200 RYT certified yogini, a writer, a vegetarian, and a trauma psychotherapist who inspires healing through the arts. I strive to help you speak your untold truths so that you can begin to feed your hearts. In working with my clients, I found that healing is unequivocally about feeding our hearts with what brings us peace and ESPECIALLY what brings us joy. We all struggle to show up as ourselves—even I do as I am writing this—but I have chosen to unapologetically be myself so that you can be seen the way you deserve to be seen. For me, and for many of my clients, feeding ourselves with acts of joy are a personal and communal healing movement.
Our first session is about understanding what our relationship will look like, getting to know one another, and understanding boundaries around therapy and what therapy means for the client. This is a more general session that just helps us dip our toes into the client's hope and goals and my expectations of how the client will show up in this space as well. Hopefully we can collaborate on a space that feels safe yet challenging in a good way!
I am transparent about who I am and strive to be my authentic self--this helps build trust and understanding. I am also very warm and empathetic and I value art as a natural healing tool, allowing clients to think and live more creatively as well.
I love working with children ages 8 and up, young teens and young adults, but also new parents and empty nesters. I'm comfortable with a wide array of developmental and life cycle transitions, but I am best equipped to work with multicultural and BIPOC identities who have experienced childhood trauma, racial trauma, or workplace and medical trauma. I use holistic and culturally informed practices to empower folks to rewrite their narratives and live above and beyond their trauma. As for kids, we learn so much about emotions and new language together! I love using art therapy and help them figure out different ways to understand and express what they're feeling.
I am committed to learning and understanding ways I can be more anti-racist and be culturally aware of racial, ethnic, gender, and many more intersecting identities are impacted in the current political climate. I am committed to social activism and discuss how environmental and societal events affect each individual identity.
So much trauma gets stored in our body throughout our lives. Trauma informed care creates a more compassionate, patient, and understanding space for healing. Without trauma knowledge, we miss so much in peoples actions, belief systems, and emotional experiences.
Relationship therapy is my specialty. Our deepest fears and traumas tend to show up in our most intimate relationships. Couples therapy allows us to change those dynamics and internalized belief systems.
I include yoga and meditative practices rooted in culture to facilitate coping with stress.
I believe all issues are created and upheld in systems and often rooted in family dynamics. Family therapy allows for a larger and more lasting change and healing in relationships.
