Meet Caprice Smith, LCSW Caprice Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Essence & Grace Development Center, LLC. A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, she has over seven years of experience helping adolescents, young adults, and adults navigate life's challenges with compassion, clinical excellence, and faith. Her passion for mental health was born from growing up in a community where emotional struggles were often overlooked and seeking therapy was uncommon. Those experiences, combined with her Christian faith, inspired her to create a practice where individuals can find hope, healing, and practical tools to overcome life's difficulties. Caprice believes that true healing addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life transitions using evidence-based therapies while thoughtfully integrating biblical principles into the counseling process for clients who desire faith-based care. Through Essence & Grace Development Center, her mission is to create a safe and welcoming environment where clients, especially minorities and people of color, feel seen, heard, and valued. She is committed to helping individuals develop emotional resilience, strengthen healthy relationships, discover their God-given identity, and become the healthiest version of themselves. Whether clients are seeking emotional healing, spiritual growth, or practical coping strategies, Caprice considers it a privilege to walk alongside them on their journey toward lasting hope, healing, and transformation.
I believe that treatment should be enjoyable and a trusting relationship between myself and clients and the client should be at the center. I will provide a fulfilling therapeutic experience by keeping your needs first & providing the tools needed to help you thrive. The first session we will be getting to know each other to see how I can help you.
One of my greatest strengths is creating a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free environment where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued. I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to express emotions when you have spent years believing you had to carry them alone. Growing up, mental health was rarely discussed, and seeking therapy was often misunderstood. Those experiences shaped both my heart and my calling as a therapist. My approach combines evidence-based therapeutic practices with empathy, authenticity, and practical tools that empower clients to move beyond simply surviving toward lasting healing and growth. Rather than offering temporary solutions, I work collaboratively with clients to help them develop emotional awareness, healthy coping skills, resilience, and confidence in navigating life's challenges. As a Christian therapist, I also offer faith-integrated counseling for clients who desire it. I believe God cares deeply about our emotional well-being and that healing can involve both sound clinical treatment and biblical truth. Whether clients are processing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or life transitions, I strive to meet them with grace, compassion, and hope while helping them discover practical steps toward meaningful change. My goal is for every client to leave each session feeling encouraged, equipped, and empowered to become the healthiest version of themselves—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
I am passionate about serving individuals who desire to grow emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. While I welcome clients from all backgrounds, I have a special heart for those who want to integrate their Christian faith into the counseling process and are seeking healing through both biblical truth and evidence-based therapeutic practices. I am especially passionate about creating a safe, compassionate space where minorities and people of color feel seen, heard, and valued. Growing up, I often kept my emotions bottled up because I didn't know how to express them. Conversations about mental health were uncommon, and seeking therapy was rarely encouraged. Those experiences have given me a deep understanding of how difficult it can be to ask for help. Today, it is my mission to provide a supportive environment where clients can process life's challenges without fear of judgment. I strive to equip individuals with practical tools, healthy coping skills, and emotional awareness while helping them discover hope, healing, and resilience. For clients who desire it, I thoughtfully integrate biblical principles, prayer, and faith into the therapeutic process, believing that true healing addresses the mind, body, and spirit. My goal is to help every client experience lasting transformation, develop healthier relationships, and walk confidently in the purpose God has for their lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. The therapist assists the client in identifying, testing the reality of, and correcting dysfunctional beliefs underlying his or her thinking.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the treatment most closely associated with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Therapists practice DBT in both individual and group sessions. The therapy combines elements of CBT to help with regulating emotion through distress tolerance and mindfulness.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a method of therapy that works to engage the motivation of clients to change their behavior. Clients are encouraged to explore and confront their ambivalence. Motivational Interviewing is frequently used in cases of problem drinking or mild addictions.
Christian Counseling
As both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a licensed minister, I am uniquely equipped to support clients who desire to integrate their Christian faith into the counseling process. My clinical training allows me to provide evidence-based mental health treatment, while my ministry background enables me to thoughtfully incorporate biblical principles, Scripture, and prayer when requested by the client. In addition to providing professional counseling, I have served in ministry through preaching, teaching, discipleship, women's ministry leadership, and spiritual mentoring. These experiences have given me a deeper understanding of the emotional, relational, and spiritual challenges many Christians face. I recognize that emotional healing and spiritual growth often go hand in hand. For clients seeking faith-based counseling, I strive to provide a compassionate, Christ-centered approach that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—while remaining grounded in ethical, evidence-based clinical practice. Whether a client is navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, or life transitions, I seek to create a safe space where they can experience hope, healing, and encouragement while growing in both emotional wellness and their relationship with God.

It was her approach to my situation and genuine concern to be of help to me. I needed to be heard and not just seen as someone who was struggling with life’s challenge's.
