Sherita Amin
I'm a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with nearly 20 years of nursing experience and over five years as a nurse practitioner. I provide compassionate, evidence-based care for adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, sleep concerns, and life transitions. My background in primary care, palliative care, and psychiatry helps me understand the connection between physical and mental health, allowing me to care for the whole person, not just the diagnosis. I work closely with each patient to create an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive therapy, and practical strategies to help you feel your best.
First session
Your first visit is a supportive, judgment-free conversation focused on understanding your concerns, your history, and your goals. Together, we'll review your symptoms, discuss what has and hasn't worked in the past, and develop a personalized treatment plan. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your diagnosis, treatment options, and next steps.
Strengths
I believe the best care begins with listening. My approach is warm, collaborative, and solution-oriented. I take time to understand your symptoms, history, goals, and daily challenges so we can create a treatment plan that fits your life. When appropriate, I combine evidence-based medication management with supportive therapy and practical coping strategies to help you make meaningful, lasting progress.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals who want to feel better but may not know where to start. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, stress, trauma, or major life transitions. I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and older adults who are looking for a supportive provider, are open to exploring treatment options, and are motivated to make meaningful changes that improve their quality of life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT helps you recognize how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. During our sessions, we'll identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping skills, and practice practical strategies to reduce anxiety, depression, stress, and other symptoms. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can openly discuss your concerns. Together, we'll explore challenges, build on your strengths, improve coping skills, and work toward your personal goals.
Motivational Interviewing
If you're feeling uncertain about making changes, I'll help you explore what's important to you and build confidence in taking manageable steps toward your goals, without pressure or judgment.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
We'll focus on your strengths and what's already working. Together, we'll identify realistic goals and practical solutions that you can begin using right away to improve your daily life.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Every treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs, values, and goals. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and we'll work together to make decisions that feel right for you.
