Siyo (Hello in Cherokee)! My name is Tishina Carroll. I have been involved in the behavioral health field for over 15 years. A common question I get asked is “Why did you choose to become a therapist”? The answer is easy: I profoundly enjoy helping others to find ways to manage life’s challenges, while also supporting them in developing into the best versions of themselves. I too have struggled with mental health challenges, and I understand the stigma that comes with admitting that you need help. I want my clients to understand that they are not alone in their struggles. I am a licensed clinical social worker, a licensed clinical addictions specialist and a certified clinical supervisor. My areas of expertise include Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Depression, PTSD/ Trauma, Women’s Health, Grief/ Loss and Addiction. I am skilled in Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I am an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and am familiar with traditional Native American Practices as well. I understand that meeting a therapist for the first time can be intimidating, scary and maybe even embarrassing. I completely understand! The first few sessions, I like to build rapport. I want to get to know you as a person while also giving you the same space to get to know me as a therapist. Building rapport can help develop that crucial sense of trust.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In their first session clients can expect that I will use our time to get to know one another. I've been in therapy before and completely understand how uncomfortable it is to meet with a complete stranger. I'm a very laid-back clinician and will never ask my client to share with me what they are not ready to share with me. Rapport building is very important to me.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I personally feel that a strength of mine is that I will challenge my clients when I feel that they need to be held accountable. In that same breath, I'm very compassionate and will let you move at your desired pace.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've been extensively trained in CBT. I've utilized CBT during my work with clients challenged with substance use disorders as well as clients with mental health disorders. What I enjoy the most about this approach is that it is easily teachable to all clients.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I've been thoroughly trained in DBT. This method of approach is most specifically designed to treat Bipolar Disorders, PTSD, suicidal behavior and another other behavior that places emphasis on emotional regulation. I started a DBT/ Trauma group at my last job. I "challenged" many of my clients to self-reflect on the feelings they were currently feeling verses "real life" expectations.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I've been specifically trained in EFT. EFT is specific to emotions and needs to the client. In my experience, I've utilized EFT in sessions (both individual and group therapy sessions) to treat depression, trauma and PTSD.
