Are you having difficulty finding your place in a world that feels increasingly alienating? Do you find yourself feeling unseen or misunderstood by the people around you? Do you have difficulty maintaining friendships or often feel hurt or used in romantic relationships. Have you ever felt like you're trying so hard to have the life you thought you'd be living by now, but it seems like you can never quite get it right? I'm Nikki B., LMHC and I am a Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapist. The term "neurodivergent" is an annoying buzzword to some, but for me and many of my clients, it is both our superpower and one of our biggest challenges in life. In my therapeutic practice, I take into account how neurodiversity (and it's intersectionality with race, culture, age, gender, sexuality, spirituality, and other systems) impacts my clients lives and help them navigate accordingly.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

We will spend our first session getting to know each other. I will ask you a lot of boring questions about your life (called an intake) and you can tell me as much as a little as you're comfortable with. Feeling nervous or apprehensive is normal, especially if are someone who often feels misunderstood. I will do my best to answer any questions you have about me, my therapeutic approach, and therapy in general if you've never had it. I promise there are no stupid questions. We will also discuss what you hope to gain from therapy and start brainstorming goals that we can solidify in your follow-up session(s), should you choose to continue. If you feel like I'm not a good fit, no worries! I am happy to help you find someone who aligns more with your needs, because your needs matter.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I think one of my greatest strengths is a provider is that I make clients feel comfortable, seen, and understood. So many of my long-term clients started their first session feeling nervous because they either did not know what do expect or have had poor therapeutic experiences in the past - only to breathe a sigh of relief at the end because a therapist finally "gets" them. I want anyone who is considering therapy with me know that YOU are the expert on you, and I am here to help you figure which you is the one you feel most comfortable being.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

If you have or suspect you might have ADHD, autism, anxiety, PTSD/C-PTSD; if you are gifted or high-achieving; if you become overwhelmed or moody when there is too much going on around you; if you have difficulty finding relationships in which you feel fully seen, understood, and loved for your authentic self; if you hate the "Big Light;" if you just want to feel like maybe there's at least one person out their who can relate...you're in the right place. Clients who make the most impactful and sustainable progress with me are people who are truly ready to make active, goal-oriented changes in one or more aspects of their lives. This might include simple homework assignments, trying new things, and stepping outside of your comfort zone. Don't worry; I'll be there every step of the way.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral concepts are at the core of my treatment approach. While many of my clients challenges are systemic in additional to personal, I help them implement perspective shifting, mindfulness, and emotion regulation to empower them to take control of their lives and take care of themselves in the ways they can.

Multicultural

As a multicultural person, I believe it is imperative to approach treatment from a multicultural perspective. My clients belong to various communities based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disabilities, religious/spiritual affiliation, etc., and I incorporate those aspects of their being into therapy as much as they like.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

While I welcome clients seeking more long-term treatment, I also help clients set and actively work towards concrete goals. We acknowledge how their past impacts they how navigate their present life, relationships, and challenges while simultaneously implementing strategies for them to create change in real-time.
