Hi! I am a Board Certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) based in Connecticut. I have spent the last 8 years training and working in the mental health space. I am trained across the lifespan and have focused on the impact of mood disorders, trauma and substance use on my patients' lives. I believe on using a combination of pharmacology and therapy to improve the outcomes of those I work with.
In our first session I like to get to know as much about my patients as possible in an effort to create a whole person perspective in order create an effective treatment plan. The first session is the beginning of collaborative relationship.
As a provider I balance my training and experience with the goals and outcomes identified by my patients. I believe that setting goals, both short and long term, help personalize the patient-provider relationship. As the relationship grows and goals evolve, I am adaptive to the needs of my patients.
I enjoy working with patients who have taken the first step of identifying that they want to make a change but are looking for someone to guide them and help them be their best selves.
I use the tenants of Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help illicit the internal desire for change that is lurking beneath the surface.
The mind-body approach helps connect our thoughts and feelings, additionally helpful is understanding the therapeutic connection between our minds and our bodies.
I use positive psychology to build on my patient's strengths and to help them move from struggling to thriving. Positive-psychology focuses on what is going well.
With Trauma Informed Care (TIC), I recognize the impact of trauma on my patient's experience. TIC aims to reduce re-traumatization and move towards healing.
Mindfulness is one of the singularly most powerful methods of working with my patients. Using grounding and moving my patient's to the present can be extremely powerful in managing anxiety and other mood disorders.
